But the sox are accustomed to 0 production out of SS. Scutaro is all about the defense. Offensively, Ortiz has the potential to be an impact player, Scutaro doesn't.

What's the single biggest question facing the Sox heading into Spring Training? I'm saying Ortiz. Even if our pitching and defense doesn't live up to expectations, this team is still going to give up very few runs, especially on the road. Offense is clearly the question and I think Ortiz is the biggest factor there. If he snaps out of it (or starts juicing again....) this team will be unbeatable. If not, expect a lot of 1-1 or 1-2 nailbiters going into the 6th or 7th...

Calling him the team's best hitter is definitely a stretch. I thought this was a Trot v Drew comparison. Calling him the better hitter of those two is legit, but saying he beats Youk Pedroia and Martinez is crazy talk.

It's time to revive this. I want to learn more about the sox farm system, and I think this is a good way for us all to keep track of player progress. Everyone claims 1 prospect for now (we can get to 2 or 3 after everyone has had a shot). Each prospect gets his own thread, with that prospects claimer acting as the thread owner, updating the board on progress and keeping us all posted on that player's progress. The threads would be open for discussion and questions. Please claim your prospect here and then create your thread sometime soon. I'll keep this master list current. I always thought hitters made for more interesting prospects than pitchers, so I'll take Ryan Kalish. I'll make a thread soon. Will he make good on this? He reported early to camp yesterday and Epstein said he looks good and clearly worked hard over the summer. Stark contrast to last year's WBC debacle when he reported to camp less than 2 weeks before it started. If he gives us 2008 instead of 2009, we're in excellent shape.

I think I'll feel old when Nomar retires. And I think that's probably going to happen soon. Last I read he was looking for a job in television. Has anyone heard anything about that recently?
