The Red Sox traded for Sonny Gray during the 2025-2026 offseason, attempting to stabilize their young rotation with a veteran arm. Gray came out of the gates as a bona fide ace for the Red Sox, going 10-1 with a 2.61 ERA. The last-place Red Sox now sit at the trade deadline, wondering whether they should attempt to trade Gray or attempt to re-sign him for the 2027 season. Gray has a $30 million mutual option for the 2027 season; mutual options are almost always declined by one side or the other.
