Boston Red Sox Affiliate Recap (May 14) Triple-A Worcester Red Sox The WooSox offense could not get anything going and somehow came up just short, losing 4-3 to the Buffalo Bisons. Nick Sogard, who’s slashing .310/.404/.548 so far in May, launched a lead-off home run in the first inning, putting Portland on top 1-0. That early lead didn't last as Jake Bennett ran into trouble in the bottom of the second. Buffalo strung together a single, a double, and a pair of RBI singles to score three runs. A fourth run scored on a fielding error by right fielder Allan Castro. Worcester was staring at a 4–1 deficit entering the third inning. The ninth inning brought a late spark for the WooSox, with two outs and nobody on, Seigler ripped a single to center. Mikey Romero followed up and crushed a two-run homer to right, cutting the deficit to 4–3, bringing the tying run to the plate. Unfortunately, Castro grounded out to end the game. Other than the rough start from Bennett, Worcester’s bullpen was outstanding the rest of the way. Seth Martinez tossed 1 ⅔ scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Noah Song had two scoreless frames of his own, and Tayron Guerrero worked a clean inning with two strikeouts. Over 4 ⅔ combined relief innings, they allowed zero runs, but the offense couldn't capitalize. Double-A Portland Sea Dogs The Portland Sea Dogs jumped on the Hartford Yard Goats early and never trailed in the game, taking a 5-3 victory. The Sea Dogs put up a three-spot in the second inning, Marvin Alcantara launched a solo homer to left-center, then Nelly Taylor and Max Ferguson worked a walk, Taylor stole a base, then Ahbram Liendo ripped a two-run double to the left field gap, scoring Taylor and Ferguson. They tacked on another run in the third when Ronald Rosario singled home Will Turner, making it 4-0 entering the fourth. Hartford got one back in the fourth with a solo shot, but Liendo answered back in the seventh with a solo homer of his own to push it to 5-1, giving Portland a comfortable lead. The Yard Goats chipped away with a run in the bottom half of the seventh and another run in the eighth, making it a 5-3 game. Blake Wehunt was the starter for Portland and dominated through 3 ⅓ innings, striking out seven while allowing just three hits and no runs. The bullpen held it together from there; each pitcher coming out of the bullpen gave up one run, but did not let anything crazy happen. Max Carlson earned the win working 1 ⅔ innings, Reidis Sena gave up a run over two innings, and Cooper Adams locked it down with a four-strikeout save over the final two innings. Key Performances: Ahbram Liendo: 3-for-4, R, 2B, 3 RBI Marvin Alcantara: HR, R, RBI Blake Wehunt: 3 ⅓ IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 7 K High-A Greenville Drive The Greenville Drive had a tough night, going scoreless up until the ninth inning in a 5-1 loss to the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Bowling Green did its damage in small doses: one run each coming in the third, fourth, and sixth off Greenville's pitching, then tacked on two more in the eighth to put it out of reach at 5-0. Despite collecting eight hits and drawing five walks on the night, the Drive never managed to string hits together in big moments, going 1-for-8 with RISP. Although he suffered a loss, Dylan Brown is still adjusting to Greenville since his promotion, but pitched well, striking out seven batters and giving up two runs in his five innings of work. Steven Brooks pitched two perfect innings and struck out three. At the plate, Henry Godbout led the way, going 3-for-5 with a double, and Antonio Anderson went 2-for-4 with a double as well, including the only RBI in the ninth inning that scored Yophery Rodriguez to break up the shutout. Key Performances: Henry Godbout: 3-for-5, 2B Antonio Anderson: 2-for-4, RBI Single-A Salem RidgeYaks It was down to the wire, but Salem had a two-run ninth inning and came away with the 6-3 win over the Nationals. Enddy Azocar was the catalyst for the RidgeYaks, earning his third multi-hit game in four games, including a solo homer in the third inning to break Salem off with a 1-0 lead. Azocar was not done, however, in the sixth, after Starlyn Nunez legged out a two-out triple to center, Azocar ripped a double to bring in Nunez and push it to 4-0. He finished 2-for-4 with a homer, a double, two RBIs, and a walk. Barrett Morgan was dominant on the mound, spinning five shutout innings on just 62 pitches while giving up three hits with three strikeouts. He earned the win and kept the Nationals in check. Fredericksburg worked a comeback in the eighth, making it a one-run 4-3 game by hitting two RBI singles and an RBI triple. Salem's lineup responded exactly when they needed to. In the top of the ninth, Skylar King and Ty Hodge got on base (King went 2-for-4 with a stolen base; Hodge was 2-for-3 with two walks and a double). Avinson Pinto singled in King to make it 5-3, and D'Angelo Ortiz followed with another RBI single to push it to 6-3 to seal it for Salem. Boston Red Sox Affiliate Recap (May 13) Triple-A Worcester Red Sox The WooSox jumped on top early and never let the lead go, defeating the Buffalo Bisons (Toronto Blue Jays) 6-2. In the first inning, Nick Sogard led the game off with a single and came around to score on a Nate Eaton sacrifice fly, giving the WooSox a 1–0 lead. The third inning blew the game open for Worcester. Braiden Ward worked a walk, then immediately stole his 20th bag of the season and scored on a Vinny Capra line-drive single to left. Eaton ripped a ground ball to Buffalo’s shortstop, drawing a fielding error that let Capra score. Jason Delay capped the rally with an RBI single to center, hitting in Mikey Romero and making it 4–0. Worcester tacked on two insurance runs in the eighth on a passed ball by the Bisons catcher to make it 5-2, then a Ward sacrifice fly made it 6–2 and put the game well out of reach. Worcester's pitching staff was dominant. Six pitchers combined to hold Buffalo to just two runs while racking up 12 strikeouts. Devin Sweet started on the mound and threw two perfect innings. Eduardo Rivera picked up the win, tossing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. The middle relief was outstanding as well. Tommy Kahnle, Wyatt Olds, and Angel Bastardo combined for four innings of shutout ball, surrendering just one hit total. Bastardo was particularly sharp with three strikeouts and no hits allowed in two spotless innings. The standout hitters for the WooSox were Sogard and Delay, who each racked up two-hit games, while Capra, Romero, and Eaton all reached base multiple times as well. Double-A Portland Sea Dogs Finding themselves down three runs in the seventh, the Sea Dogs rallied and came back to win it 9-6 against the Hartford Yard Goats (Colorado Rockies). Portland came out aggressively in the first inning, Franklin Arias and Nate Baez both drew walks, and Marvin Alcantara singled to load the bases. Miguel Bleis poked a grounder into left to score Arias, but Baez was gunned down at home. It still gave the Sea Dogs an early 1-0 lead. In the second, Tyler McDonough roped a leadoff double, and Max Ferguson laid down a bunt single; the Hartford pitchers' throw went wide, allowing McDonough to race home and put Portland back on top 2-1. The Yard Goats crushed a two-run homer in the bottom half, flipping the lead to 3-2 Hartford. Baez led off with a double in the third, Bleis followed up and continued his hot hitting streak with a line-drive single to center, driving in Baez to knot the score at 3-3. The fifth inning got out of hand for Gage Ziehl, who got roughed up in his five innings of work. Ziehl gave up two singles right away and gave up another single with one out; this time, it scored a run. With two outs, two runners on, and hopes of getting out of the inning with a one-run deficit, the Yard Goats cleared the bases with a two-run triple that gave them a comfortable 6-3 lead over Portland. Brooks Brannon, who is coming off the Eastern League Player of the Week, continues to hammer the ball, launching a solo homer to left-center in the seventh inning, his sixth of the season and fourth in his last four games. It cut the deficit to 6-4 and shifted the energy. The eighth inning is where the Portland bats exploded. Bleis drew a lead-off walk, and McDonough instantly crushed a two-run homer to left-center, tying it 6-6. Nelly Taylor kept the line moving with a double, Ferguson came up to the plate and belted a two-run homer, the second two-run homer in the inning, without recording an out as Portland leads 8-6. Arias walks, and Hartford changes pitchers. Arias stole second base right away and reached third due to a throwing error. Baez blooped a double to shallow right, scoring Arias. That would be the end of Portland's five-run eighth inning, making the score 9-6 and putting the game out of reach for the Yard Goats. Cade Feeney, who entered in the eighth and retired the side in order, came back out and did it again in the ninth: Six up and six down across two innings, earning his first save of the season. Although Ziehl had a rough outing, the bullpen behind him stepped up and kept Portland in the game until the end. Patrick Halligan was first out of the bullpen, throwing two hitless innings in the sixth and seventh. Feeney came in for the last two innings and shut the door. Bowling Green scratched across a run in the second with an RBI single, then launched a solo homer in the third to make it 2-0. The Drive went quietly through the first three innings. The Drive’s bullpen struggled all game, especially in the fourth inning. The Hot Rods roped an RBI single then blasted a three-run homer, putting Greenville in a hole 6-0. Greenville showed signs of life. Freili Encarnacion drove in the first run with an RBI double in the fourth. In the 6th, Jack Winnay blasted a solo homer to left-center. A few batters later, Natanael Yuten brought in another run with an RBI single to pull it to 7-3. There were some bright spots for Greenville. Justin Gonzales, Henry Godbout, and Mason White all had multi-hit games. Key Performances: Justin Gonzales: 2-for-5 Henry Godbout: 2-for-5, SB Mason White: 2-for-4, 3B, R Jack Winnay: HR, 2 R, RBI, BB Single-A Salem RidgeYaks The RidgeYaks defeat the Fredericksburg Nationals (Washington Nationals) 3-1 in a very uneventful game for Salem up until the eighth inning. 19-year-old Red Sox top prospect Enddy Azocar could be seeing a promotion to Double-A soon, collecting another multi-hit game while slashing .273/.322/.485 with five homers in the season. Salem trailed 1-0 for most of the game, but the eighth inning changed everything. Andruw Musett got hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and suddenly the floodgates opened. Starlyn Nunez singled, Azocar ripped an RBI single to tie it at 1-1, he ended up getting picked off, but Andrews Opata drew a walk then got to second base on a wild pitch to put runners on second and third. Luke Heyman followed and delivered the dagger, a two-run double to center that scored Nunez and Opata, putting Salem up 3-1. Nicolas De La Cruz shut it down, striking out four over 2 ⅔ innings of relief, closing it out in the ninth to earn the win. The RidgeYaks’ pitching staff was outstanding. Christian Foutch gutted through a tough 2 ⅔ inning start; he walked five batters and gave up the lone run in the third, but he limited the damage and kept it at 1-0. Ethan Walker came in after and delivered 1 ⅔ scoreless innings to stabilize the game. Harry Blum was dominant with four strikeouts over two clean innings. Boston Red Sox Affiliate Recap (May 12) Triple-A Worcester Red Sox The WooSox traveled to Buffalo to play the Bisons, taking a 7-2 defeat in the first game of the series as the bats were quiet. After Worcester went hitless in the first inning, the Bisons took advantage early in the bottom half of the first, racking up two hits and an RBI groundout to put them up 1-0. A badly timed error by the Sox cost them in the second inning as two runs would score from a bad throw to push Buffalo ahead 3-0. The WooSox showed life in the 3rd, Jason Delay drew a walk, Braiden Ward laced a double to keep it going, and Nick Sogard drove in Delay on a sacrifice fly to cut it to 3–1. But with runners on the corners and two outs, Nate Eaton grounded out to end the threat. Worcester manufactured a brief two-out rally in the fifth. Matt Lloyd walked to lead off the inning, after a couple of force outs and another Sogard walk, Vinny Capra ripped a single to right to bring in Ward, trimming it to 3–2. Unfortunately, Eaton left runners stranded on the corners with two outs once again. The game seemed to slip away for Worcester in the sixth after the bullpen immediately gave up a two-run homer to Buffalo, making it a 5-2 game. The WooSox bats were extremely cold the last three innings, only tallying one hit as the Bisons scored two more runs to make it a 7-2 final score. Double-A Portland Sea Dogs The Portland Sea Dogs suffered a defeat they would like to forget, having the lead for the first seven innings and blowing it in the eighth and getting walked off on in the ninth by the Hartford Yard Goats 7-6. The Sea Dogs' offense exploded in the 1st inning. Franklin Arias led off the inning with a single, then stole a base, Brooks Brannon walked, Johanfran Garcia followed and blasted a three-run homer to right-center to make it 3–0. Marvin Alcantara kept it going with a homer of his own, a solo shot to right field, and just like that, it was 4–0 Portland. The Yard Goats scraped a run across in the second inning on a strange play, with two outs, a runner who was caught stealing, and allowed another runner to score from third base. In the third, Hartford strung together three singles to cut it to 4–2. In the next at-bat, a wild pitch allowed another runner to score, making it a one-run game, 4-3. The Sea Dogs got some breathing room in the fifth inning after Will Turner smacked a solo homer, pushing their lead to 5-3, but the Yard Goats made it a one-run game once again after hitting an RBI single. In the seventh, Ahbram Liendo tripled and scored on an Arias groundout, extending the lead 6–4. Portland's bullpen had trouble finding the zone and lost the lead in the eighth inning. A wild pitch gave the Yard Goats a free run and a walk with the bases loaded, tying it up 6-6 entering the ninth, giving Hartford a chance to walk it off. In the ninth, the Sea Dogs drew a couple of walks, putting runners on first and second with two outs, but both runners ended up being stranded as a groundout ended their chance to get the lead back. That gave the Yard Goats a perfect chance to end it; they would then hammer a walk-off home run, putting an end to a 7-6 game in which Portland had the lead for seven straight innings. Hayden Mullins started on the mound for Portland and pitched well by limiting the damage, throwing five innings, allowing three earned runs, and striking out eight batters. Their bats were stifled all game by a dominant Bowling Green pitching staff. Top prospect Kyson Witherspoon continues to struggle this season, unable to find a good rhythm and find the strike zone. He gave up six hits, four runs, three walks, and only one strikeout in his 4 ⅔ innings of work. Greenville’s bats only recorded six hits, but they had plenty of chances to score, but could not capitalize, going 1-for-7 with RISP. Most of the top batters were shut down; the player who had two of the six hits was Jack Winnay The only score for the Drive came in the bottom of the fifth when Justin Gonzales was hit by a pitch, and Yoeilin Cespedes lined an RBI single to center to make it 4–1, but Isaiah Jackson grounded out to end the inning. Ben Hansen pitched well in his relief outing, throwing 3 ⅓ innings, giving up two hits, one earned run, and striking out five. Single-A Salem RidgeYaks It was a miserable night for the RidgeYaks; they were completely dominated by four Fredericksburg Nationals pitchers who combined for a nine-inning shutout 4-0, allowing just three hits and zero walks while striking out 12. Skylar King was the only bright spot on offense for the RidgeYaks; he tallied two of the three hits the team had the entire game. Starlyn Nunez had the only other hit. Salem’s bats were non-existent, getting no-hit through the first four innings. Finally, they recorded their first hit in the fifth when King hit a two-out single, but the RidgeYaks would not make anything out of it. The RidgeYaks' pitching staff was not necessarily bad, but the offense did not do them any justice. Madison Frias started on the mound, in 5 ⅓ innings of work, and he gave up only two hits, three earned runs, and struck out four. The bullpen started out with Adam Bates, who finished the sixth inning for Frias and came back out in the seventh and took care of business by throwing a hitless frame. Williams Rodriguez was the last pitcher in the game for Salem. Triple-A Worcester Red Sox Worcester gutted out a wild extra-inning win, walking it off with a two-run homer in the 12th inning, 10-8 against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders. Worcester and Scranton battled back and forth in the first couple of innings. The WooSox got on the board early when Nick Sogard singled in a run in the first inning, but the RailRiders answered back with a three-run homer in the top of the second to take a 3-1 lead. Worcester clawed right back, tying it 3-3 in the bottom of the frame on a pair of productive RBI groundouts by Tsung-Che Cheng and Matt Lloyd. After Scranton retook the lead 4-3 in the 4th, Anthony Seigler crushed a solo homer to tie it once again, and Cheng added a sacrifice fly to put Worcester up 5-4. Worcester stretched the lead to 6-4 in the 7th as Sogard scored on an error, then 7-4 in the 8th when Matt Lloyd launched a solo shot. Cade Feeney ran into trouble at the top of the 9th, surrendering an RBI triple and a two-run single that knotted the score at 7-7. Both teams went scoreless in the 10th. In the 11th, Scranton pushed across a run with a sacrifice fly to go up 8-7, but Worcester answered immediately. Kristian Campbell delivered a sacrifice fly of his own to tie it again at 8-8. In the bottom of the 12th, Allan Castro, who already singled, doubled, and stole a base on the night, jumped on a pitch and launched a two-run homer to end it, 10-8. Eduardo Rivera gave Worcester 2 ⅔ solid innings of middle relief (1 ER, 4 K), and Kyle Keller was dominant over 1.1 hitless frames with 3 strikeouts. Key Performances: Allan Castro: 2-for-5, 3 R, 2 RBI, BB, SB Anthony Seigler: 2-for-4, 3 R, RBI, 2 BB Double-A Portland Sea Dogs Portland played two seven-inning games for their doubleheader, and it was a frustrating 4-2 loss for the Sea Dogs in the first game as their bats couldn't solve New Hampshire’s pitching staff, going 0-for-9 with RISP. Portland managed just six hits on the night, and none of them produced a run through the first six innings. Blake Wehunt gave the Sea Dogs a clean first two frames on the mound, but the third inning unraveled as the Fisher Cats smacked a two-run double to put them up 2-0. New Hampshire followed up with another RBI, this time coming from a forceout. Max Carlson came on and had an excellent four innings of relief, allowing just two hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Although he gave up an unearned run in the 5th when a Fisher Cats runner scored on an error to make it 4-0, Carlson kept the game within reach. A promising start slipped away from the Sea Dogs in the second game of the doubleheader as they lost 7-5 Portland came out swinging in the bottom of the 1st. Franklin Arias reached base with a single, and Will Turner launched a two-run homer to right field to make it 2-0. Max Ferguson added on with an RBI single to push it to 3-0. The Fisher Cats answered back immediately in the second inning, scoring off of a fielder's choice and an RBI groundout, 3-2. New Hampshire tied the game up 3-3 in the fifth with an RBI single. Both teams traded blows in the eighth and ninth to force extra innings. New Hampshire broke through in the top of the eighth on a sacrifice fly to go up 4-3, but Portland scored right back, Miguel Bleis singled in a run to knot the score 4-4. In the 9th, the Fisher Cats ripped a ground-rule double to put them up 5-4, and once again Portland responded: Tyler McDonough laid down a sacrifice bunt, and a throwing error by former Red Sox second round pick Cutter Coffey allowed Marvin Alcantara to score and tie it 5-5. The Sea Dogs unfortunately hit a dry spell in the tenth, giving up two runs and failing to score any runs with two runners on base to end it 7-5. Caleb Bolden was very sharp in the 3 ⅓ innings he pitched for Portland, giving up one run and striking out eight batters. High-A Greenville Drive The Drive's bats came alive early and never let up, defeating the Greensboro Grasshoppers on the road 6-4. Greenville made their intentions clear in the first inning, Justin Gonzales led things off with a solo homer to left-center and Henry Godbout launched one of his own to left, back-to-back long balls that made it 2-0. Yoeilin Cespedes hit a single and moved to second base on a wild pitch, which would then set up Yophery Rodriguez to single him home to push the lead to 3-0. The Grasshoppers chipped away with two runs in the second to make it 3-2. In the third, Rodriguez earned his second hit of the game as Jack Winnay followed up with an RBI single. Greensboro scored another two runs in the bottom of the third to tie it at 4-4, taking advantage of some early mistakes from starter Brandon Neely. But Neely steadied himself and worked through 3 ⅔ innings. It was not flashy, but the Drive retook the lead for good at the top of the fourth when Godbout drove in Freili Encarnacion with a groundout to make it 5-4. A passed ball in the ninth brought in a run and added a little cushion for the Drive, 6-4. Greenville’s bullpen slammed the door shut in the last four innings, Danny Kirwin threw three scoreless innings, striking out six, and Matt McShane pitched the ninth, striking out two batters to earn a save. Salem struck first, as Kleyver Salazar (who reached base in four of his five plate appearances) worked a walk in the first inning, and Skylar King singled him home to put the RidgeYaks up 1-0. Delmarva tied it up quickly in the second with an RBI double to make it 1-1. The fourth inning is where it all fell apart. The Shorebirds led off the inning with a solo homer to put Delmarva up 2-1. Two walks and a throwing error by first baseman Frederik Jimenez led to two runs scored. The Shorebirds followed up with an RBI single, and suddenly it was 5-1. Salem’s bats were still quiet for the rest of the game, other than their last run scoring from a throwing error. Griffin Kilander was solid in his relief outing, throwing two innings, one earned run, and striking out five. The frustrating part for Salem was their inability to cash in runs with runners on base. Boston Red Sox Affiliate Recap (May 6) Triple-A Worcester Red Sox Worcester fought back from a couple of deficits and forced extra innings with a dramatic ninth-inning rally, only to fall 9-7 in the tenth inning to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (New York Yankees). Nate Eaton set the tone immediately, launching a solo homer to left in the bottom of the first to put Worcester up 1-0. The WooSox pitching staff, Erik Rivera and Red Sox relief pitcher Justin Slaten, who is currently rehabbing, kept Scranton off the board through the first four frames. Nathan Hickey blew the game open in the fourth with a two-run shot to right, scoring Anthony Seigler to push the lead to 3-0. Then came the fifth inning. Jacob Webb entered in relief, and the RailRiders pounced, a double scored a run, and a three-run homer flipped the score 4-3 in one swing. Worcester answered right back in the bottom half when Mickey Gasper smacked a two-run homer to reclaim the lead at 5-4. However, Scranton tied it 5-5 in the seventh with an RBI single. Entering the ninth with the game still knotted, the RailRiders hit a two-run shot to put them up 7-5. Down to their last three outs, Worcester didn't fold. Matt Thaiss and Nathan Hickey both reached base with a pair of singles, then Braiden Ward ripped an RBI double down the right field line to make it 7-6. Nick Sogard followed with a sacrifice fly to tie it at 7-7. The WooSox bullpen could not hold on in the tenth as they gave up a two-run double to make it 9-7. The bats tried to start a rally once again in the bottom of the tenth, loading the bases with no outs, but unfortunately, they did not score any runs, which ended the game. After falling behind 1-0 on a first-inning sacrifice fly, Greenville stormed ahead. Yophery Rodriguez homered to tie it in the second, 1-1, and a Natanael Yuten forceout made it 2-1. The Drive blew it open in the fourth, Yuten crushed a two-run homer, and Yoeilin Cespedes followed with a solo shot to left-center that gave Greenville a 5-1 lead. Antonio Anderson tacked on an RBI single in the fifth to push it to 6-1. Greensboro fought back, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 6-4. The Drive got some more insurance runs in the seventh, Rodriguez belted his second homer of the day, and Ronny Hernandez followed up with a solo shot as well, making it back-to-back home runs, 8-4. The bottom of the seventh was a major collapse. It started when the Drive gave up a two-run double to make it 8-6. A couple of RBI singles and a three-run bomb to right-center put Greensboro ahead 11-8. An error by Jack Winnay led to another run to score, 12-8 Grasshoppers. Greenville did not quit; Yuten hit his second homer of the game in the eighth to make it 12-9. The Drive made an incredible comeback in the ninth. Isaiah Jackson worked a walk, and Mason White ripped a two-run homer to cut it to 12-11. Hernandez followed and continued his incredible day at the plate, belting his second home run of the game with a solo blast to tie it 12-12. Sadly, the bullpen could not keep the game tied as the Grasshoppers walked it off with an RBI single to end it 13-12. They added another run with a groundout in the third to make it 2-0. The fourth inning unraveled, an RBI double, an RBI single, and a throwing error from Salem let a fifth run cross the plate, 5-0. Salem finally broke through in the fifth when Ilan Fernandez reached base with a double and came around to score on a Starlyn Nunez sacrifice fly to make it 5-1. In the sixth, Luke Heyman and Skylar King walked, and Heyman eventually scored on a Kleyver Salazar ground ball single to left, cutting it to 5-2. Boston Red Sox Affiliate Recap (May 5) Triple-A Worcester Red Sox Worcester rallied from a three-run deficit to win 7-6 over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (New York Yankees) at home. The WooSox came out swinging in the first when Mickey Gasper launched a two-run homer to left off Carlos Rodón to put Worcester up 2-0 early. But the lead didn't hold. Scranton chipped one back in the second on an RBI single, then blew the game open in the third inning as they crushed a three-run shot to give them a 4-2 lead. Nate Eaton got on base due to a fielding error, and a couple of wild throws from Rodón ended up scoring Eaton to shorten the deficit 4-3. Scranton increased their lead once again in the sixth with a two-run double to make it 6-3. Worcester’s comeback started in the bottom of the sixth when Kristian Campbell belted a solo homer to center off Rodón (EV 102.7 MPH), cutting it to 6-4. Then came a huge seventh inning, Allan Castro singled, Vinny Capra drew a walk, Jason Delay hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded, and a run-scoring forceout by Eaton knotted things up at 6-6. Campbell led off the bottom of the eighth with a hard hit double to right center (EV 104.6 MPH), earning his third hit of the game. Castro delivered the go-ahead RBI single through the middle to make it 7-6. Tommy Kahnle worked around two base runners and shut the door in the ninth for the save. Worcester's pitching was very mixed in this matchup. Devin Sweet started the game and threw two innings, giving up one earned run. The Fisher Cats' first pitcher out of the bullpen gave up the lead after Johanfran Garcia crushed a solo shot, his third in three games, to tie the game at 2-2. In the eighth inning, Max Ferguson hit a lead-off double, giving Portland a chance to take the lead. A poorly attempted sacrifice bunt was popped up and led to a free out for the Fisher Cats. Franklin Arias was intentionally walked to put two runners on and one out. Sadly, the Sea Dogs' next two batters struck out to strand the runners. Cooper Adams came into the ninth inning to try to keep it tied, but New Hampshire had other plans, hitting a solo homer. Greenville made a push in the eighth, Jackson delivered again with a two-run single, and Encarnacion followed with an RBI double to cut it to 11-9. The Drive would then get two runners on in the ninth with a chance to extend the game, but would not deliver as they hit into a double play to end it. The WooSox bats had trouble getting anything going in this game, especially with runners on base, 0-6 RISP. Worcester’s only run of the game came in the first inning when Anthony Seigler hit an RBI groundout with the bases loaded. Everything else went downhill from there as the pitchers struggled to find any swing and misses. Kristian Campbell had a solid day at the plate, collecting two hits. Campbell showed improvement by hitting the ball hard, a 101.6 MPH lineout to the shortstop and a 102.5 MPH double to center. Jake Bennett was slated to start but was scratched in hopes of possibly making his debut with the big league club. Seth Martinez filled in and did not last very long this game as he threw three innings and gave up four runs. April 30: With a busy day for Worcester as they played a doubleheader, the WooSox leaned on their pitching staff in the first game with a 4-3 win over the Red Wings in a 7-inning contest, and afterwards piled up 10 hits and 7 walks in a commanding 7-3 victory over the Red Wings in the second game of their doubleheader. The WooSox struck fast in the 1st, Nick Sogard led off with a single, Mickey Gasper walked, and a fielding error by Rochester loaded the bases with nobody out. Although he suffered the loss, Gage Ziehl had a nice day on the mound. He threw seven innings, struck out three batters, unfortunately, the two runs he gave up were a couple of mistake pitches taken deep from a batter he could not find an answer for. For the first game, it was a nightmare outing for Portland's pitching staff, as the Somerset Patriots pounded out 15 hits and scored in five consecutive innings to run away with a 13-1 blowout in this seven-inning contest. The Sea Dogs managed just 4 hits all game and were never competitive after the third inning. Will Turner provided the lone bright spot, launching a solo homer to right-center in the top of the 3rd, his first of the season, to briefly cut the deficit to 3-1. But that was the only run Portland would muster. Turner also drew a walk in the 7th and finished as the only Sea Dog with an extra-base hit. In the second game (makeup game from 4/5), Portland gutted out a road win against Somerset, tagging a rehabbing Gerrit Cole before holding on late for a 6-5 victory in a seven-inning game. The Sea Dogs were shut down early. Cole looked sharp through three innings, retiring Portland in order in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd innings. The bats woke up in the 4th, Ronald Rosario broke through with a single, and Johanfran Garcia followed up and jumped on one, launching a two-run homer to left-center, his first of the year, which now flipped the game 2-1. Max Ferguson added another run for Portland with a solo blast to right field in the 5th to extend the lead to 3-1. Just like that, the Sea Dogs tagged Cole for 3 earned runs. Somerset clawed back later in the 5th inning to tie up the game 3-3. The 7th inning was where Portland seized the game, with two outs and nobody on, Nelly Taylor drew a walk to put a baserunner aboard. The bottom of the order would then explode. Ferguson laced a double to right to score Taylor, Will Turner doubled to right to score Ferguson, and Tyler McDonough doubled to right to score Turner. Three consecutive doubles, all hammered to right field. It was a stunning three-run rally with two outs that blew the game open 6-3. The Portland bullpen held on in the bottom half of the inning for a final score of 6-5. Portland's bats finally erupted in the top of the 8th, Marvin Alcantara reached on a throwing error, Nate Baez singled, and Brooks Brannon unloaded a three-run homer to right-center to slash the deficit to 5-4 in one swing. Just like that, a game that had felt over was suddenly alive. Somerset added another run in the bottom of the 8th to make it 6-4 entering the 9th. The top of the 9th was pure magic. High-A Greenville Drive Season Record: 13-11 Series Opponent: Hub City Spartanburgers (Texas Rangers) Series Record: 2-1 April 28: The Greenville Drive defeat the Hub City Spartanburgers 12-6 thanks to a seven-run inning. Down two runs entering the bottom of the 3rd inning, Justin Gonzales hit a single while Henry Godbout advanced him to third base with another single. Gonzales would then score due to a wild pitch. With the bases loaded, Jack Winnay tied the game 2-2 with a sacrifice fly. Yoeilin Cespedes stayed hot as he broke open the lead for Greenville with a three-run homer in the 6th to make it a 5-2 game, his fourth home run of the year. The Spartanburgers earned their first lead of the game in the top of the 8th with a four-run inning, 6-5 Hub City. The one-run deficit would not last long as Greenville had a monster seven-run 8th inning, hammering back-to-back-to-back homers. Yophery Rodriguez led off the inning and hit his third home run in the last four games. Gonzales and Godbout each followed up with solo shots to make it three home runs in a row. The Drive loaded the bases after Cespedes hit a single, Gerardo Rodriguez earned his third hit of the game with a single, and Isaiah Jackson. Freili Encarnacion came up to the plate and belted a grand slam to put Greenville on top with a commanding 12-6 lead. Jojo Ingrassia started on the mound and was not too sharp, finding the zone, walking four batters, and throwing 34 of 63 pitches for strikes. Although he had trouble finding the zone, he worked around the traffic on the bases, only giving up two runs in the three innings he pitched. Yoeilin Cespedes continued to look incredible, hitting a solo shot in the 3rd inning to give the Drive a 3-2 lead. The Spartanburgers tied the game again, but Greenville did not let up as they scored another two runs in the 6th, Jack Winnay hit an RBI double, and Isaiah Jackson scored on a throwing error, 5-3 Drive. Hub City fought back in the 9th, tying the game 5-5 to head into extra innings. The Spartanburgers appeared to seize control in the 10th with a two-run blast, but Cespedes answered with a game-tying two-run homer of his own. Encarnacion then drove in the winning run on a force-out grounder to complete the comeback. Six total home runs were hit in the contest. Alex Bouchard came into the game to pitch the 3rd inning and still looked impressive as he threw 5 ⅓ innings, struck out four batters, and only gave up one run. Salem scored six runs on only six hits, but they showed off the long ball this game. Andrews Opata gave Salem more breathing room with a sacrifice fly in the 3rd inning to make it a 3-0 game. Enddy Azocar collected two hits, including a solo home run in the 5th inning, to keep his seven-game hitting streak alive. In the 8th, Opata earned his second and third RBIs of the game by hitting a two-run homer. The RidgeYaks pitched excellently, led by Myles Patton and Jacob Mayers. Salem kept shooting themselves in the foot; a strikeout-caught stealing double play killed a rally in the 3rd after Ortiz singled, and Ty Hodge grounded into a double play in the 5th with a runner on base. The RidgeYaks were 0-for-9 with RISP and had 5 LOB, which tells the story of the game for Salem. The real bright spot was starting pitcher Dylan Brown, who was brilliant, throwing 5 ⅔ innings, three hits, one unearned run, and seven strikeouts on 82 pitches. He kept Salem in the game and gave the offense every chance. April 30: The RidgeYaks erupt for 10 unanswered runs to stun the Warbirds 10-5. The first five innings were brutal; Salem's bats were asleep against the Warbirds pitchers. The RidgeYaks managed two singles from Starlyn Nunez and Enddy Azocar in the 1st inning but couldn't score, then went quietly in the 2nd through 5th. Starlyn Nunez tried to ignite the comeback, his solo homer to right in the 6th got Salem on the scoreboard 4-1, but Wilson answered back immediately with a homer to make it 5-1. Ty Hodge kept the pressure on with a solo shot in the 7th to cut it to 5-2. The 8th inning was electric for Salem. Anderson Fermin was hit by a pitch with one out. Nunez would then crush his second homer of the game, a two-run blast, and suddenly it was 5-4, a one-run game. Azocar singled, Heyman singled to put two on, and after a force out, moved runners to the corners with Kleyver Salazar at first. A passed ball tied the game up 5-5, and Salazar walked to load the bases. Hodge came through with a clutch two-run single to give Salem its first lead of the game at 7-5. Salem poured it on in the 9th for good measure. Nunez singled to make it his fourth hit of the game. Azocar singled, and Heyman demolished a three-run homer to left-center to blow it open 10-5. Ethan Walker deserves enormous credit for what he did on the mound. He entered in the 4th with the game at 3-0 and threw 5 ⅓ innings of two-run ball, striking out 9 on 74 pitches. He kept Salem in the game long enough for the bats to wake up and earned the win to improve to 2-1. Boston Red Sox Affiliate Recap (April 21 - April 23) Triple-A Worcester Red Sox Season Record: 13-10 Series Opponent: Syracuse Mets (New York Mets) Series Record: 2-1 April 21: Worcester suffered a blowout loss, 12-3, to Syracuse. The WooSox bats continued to struggle with RISP as they were 3-for-11 and had 10 LOB. Nick Sogard had a 3-for-4 day at the plate, including a walk and two runs. Mickey Gasper had a multi-hit day as well, hitting two of the three WooSox runs in this game. Other than the troublesome 4th inning, Isaac Coffey pitched well, throwing 3.2 innings and striking out six. Angel Bastardo made his season debut and had some trouble finding the zone, especially with his breaking pitches. He showed off his fastball, topping out at 97.6 MPH, and showed he can miss barrels. April 22: The WooSox walked it off to defeat the Mets 7-6. Mickey Gasper gave Worcester an early lead as he brought in two runs with a double. Anthony Seigler scored one more run with an RBI groundout. The Sox lost the lead in the 6th, but Vinny Capra made it a one-run game in the 7th with an RBI single. In the 8th, Syracuse scored another run, and Seigler cut it down to a one-run deficit once again. Down one run in the 9th, Nate Eaton hit a double that tied the game, but Nick Sogard was gunned down at home as he tried to end the game. With two outs, Kristian Campbell roped a single to bring in Eaton to walk it off for the WooSox 7-6. Jake Bennett continued to look great this season, this time against his former franchise. He threw 4.2 innings, giving up one run on four hits, and struck out three to put his ERA at 0.86. With the score at 4-2 entering the 5th, the WooSox got a hold of the lead thanks to Matt Thaiss hitting an RBI single while Vinny Capra and Nathan Hickey hit a pair of doubles to get a 6-4 lead. Worcester never looked back as they scored two more runs from Sogard and Gasper, and Tsung-Che Cheng scored on a wild pitch in the 9th. Max Ferguson stayed hot, going 2-for-4, hitting a double, a two-run homer, and a stolen base. Tyler McDonough’s first homer of the year was a game-tying solo shot in the 6th. Erik Rivera looked impressive again as he struck out four batters in 2.1 innings to lower his ERA to 1.00. In back-to-back games, Franklin Arias homered and knocked on the door to Worcester. Portland got off to an early 3-1 lead in the 1st, back-to-back home runs coming from Arias and Tyler McDonough; meanwhile, Brooks Brannon doubled to bring in another run. The Sea Dogs' pitching got knocked around this game, but the bats showed out. Down 8-3 entering the 6th, Ronald Rosario hit an RBI single, Nelly Taylor roped an RBI double, Ahbram Liendo brought in another run with a ground out, and Arias made his 2nd hit of the day count with an RBI double to make it a one-run game. The short deficit went out of the Sea Dogs' reach as the Yard Goats scored five more runs. Down 2-1, the Sea Dogs tied it up again due to an RBI groundout from Johanfran Garcia in the 5th inning. In the bottom of the 9th with the Yard Goats up 4-2 and a runner on 1st base, Franklin Arias hammered a two-run homer to tie it up 4-4. With the bases loaded and two outs in the 10th, Max Ferguson roped a single to center field to walk it off for the Sea Dogs. Dalton Rodgers and Cooper Adams pitched very well this game, throwing a combined nine innings and one earned run. After the Drive gave up a three-run 7th inning, Yophery Rodriguez’s third hit of the game was a three-run homer to put them on top 4-3. Greenville had a big 9th inning. Henry Godbout notched his third hit of the game with a leadoff double. After Gerardo Rodriguez got on base from a throwing error, Jack Winnay followed up with an RBI single. Afterwards, Isaiah Jackson belted a three-run homer that gave Greenville an even bigger cushion in this four-run 9th inning. Asheville scored two more runs in the 7th. Afterwards, Freili Encarnacion smacked his 3rd home run of the year to cut the deficit to three runs. The game seemed out of reach for the Drive since they were down 9-4 entering the ninth, but they had other plans. Down to their last out, Cespedes hit an RBI single to bring in Gonzales, Rodriguez singled, and Jack Winnay walked. Isaiah Jackson belted a grand slam to tie the game and keep Greenville alive. In the 10th, Gonzales’ third hit of the game was a big one, a double that brought in two runs to give the Drive a two-run lead. With a chance to walk it off or tie the game once again, Asheville brought one run across the plate but it was not enough as the Greenville Drive stunned them at home. The bats were not as sharp this game, but still managed to put up six runs and force the game to extras. Greenville was in a hole after giving up a grand slam in the 2nd to put them down 5-0. In the 5th, a couple of ground outs and a fielding error brought three runs across home plate to put them down only two runs. The Tourists scored another run in the 5th to put them up 6-3. Entering the 8th down three runs, Greenville showed off their magic once again. Natanael Yuten doubled to bring in a run, and Cespedes hit a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit down to one. With two outs, Gerardo Rodriguez hammered his first homer of the year to tie the game 6-6. Sadly, the bats fell asleep in extras to lose the game. Calvin Bickerstaff looked impressive as he threw four no-hit innings and struck out six to lower his ERA to 0.60. Seven of nine RidgeYaks hitters had multiple hits in this slugfest. In the 3rd inning, Skylar King brought in two runs with a single, while Andrews Opata and Kleyver Salazar hit in a couple more runs to make it a 4-0 game. Enddy Azocar roped a double to bring in a run, and Luke Heyman followed up with an RBI single in the 4th. In the 5th, D’Angelo Ortiz hit his first double of the year, scoring two runs in the process. Salem had another four-run inning in the 6th, Azocar hammered his third homer of the year, Stanley Tucker and Ortiz each walked in a run, Starlyn Nunez hit in another run that put them on top with a huge commanding 12-1 lead. 2025 6th round pick Leighton Finley had a nice day on the mound as he struck out five in five innings and only gave up one run on four hits to earn his first win and lowered his ERA to 1.98. The RidgeYaks were down six runs entering the 3rd; however, Luke Heyman got them on the board with an RBI single to make it 6-1. A couple of bad throws from the Nationals' catcher and pitcher resulted in two more runs to cut the deficit down to three. As momentum started to shift, Kleyver Salazar belted a two-run homer to make it a one-run game in the 8th. Frederik Jimenez’s first homer of the year was a good one, tying the game up in the bottom of the ninth on the first pitch he saw. Sadly, the RidgeYaks came up just short in the 10th as they gave up a run, and the bats could not get anything going with a runner on second base and no outs. Jacob Myers pitched a solid four innings with no earned runs while Salem was building their comeback. Boston Red Sox Affiliate Recap (April 14 - 16) Triple A Worcester Red Sox April 14: Worcester lost the first game of the series to Nashville 9-4 due to rough pitching and sloppy defense. Patrick Sandoval made his second rehab start, and it was a wild one. Sandoval got into trouble early in the 1st inning, giving up a leadoff single, then giving up a walk and hitting a batter to load the bases with no outs. Sandoval walked in a run after facing the next batter and gave up two RBI sacrifice flies to put Nashville up 3-0. There were not many positive takeaways from this game, other than Jason Delay hitting a homer off of former Red Sox prospect Shane Drohan. Patrick Sandoval’s outing: 2.0 IP, 3 H, 5 ER, 4 BB, 1K April 15: The WooSox suffered their second straight loss to the Nashville Sounds 5-3. Worcester's only lead of the game happened in the top of the 1st when Allan Castro hit an RBI single to earn his second multi-hit game in the last three games. The WooSox had a lot of traffic on the bases on offense, including 11 walks as a team, unfortunately they could not capitalize as they were 2-for-14 with RISP. Kristian Campbell had a decent day, getting on base three times with two walks and a sharp grounder to right field. Tayron Guerrero kept his scoreless streak going to start the season after throwing a shutout in the 7th inning. In the bottom half of the 3rd, Cooper Adams came into the game inheriting two runners with no outs and got out of the jam with no damage after a double play that started as a routine groundout to the pitcher but instead the runner took off for home as the ball was thrown to first base, a good throw from Drew Ehrhard to home plate resulted in the double play. Adams caught the next batter looking on strikes to end the inning. Ahbram moved his hit streak up to 6 games after hitting an RBI single in the 7th to put Portland on top 4-1. A couple of wild pitches ended up bringing in McDonough to put the Sea Dogs on top 6-0. Marvin Alcantara and Baez were responsible for the last two RBIs with a pair of RBI doubles. Gage Ziehl had another nice day on the mound. He threw five innings without allowing any runs and struck out six batters to earn the win. Joe Vagatsky threw the last 3.1 innings and kept the shutout going to earn a save while only giving up one hit. Labriola, who threw two scoreless innings. April 15: Greenville continued their losing skid after a 6-4 defeat against Bowling Green. They are still finding trouble to score with RISP as they were 0-for-7 in this game. Henry Godbout hammered his first of many homers to come in his professional career. Other than the Drive not being able to hit with RISP, they showed they can hit the long ball as they hit four solo home runs coming from Mason White, Adonys Guzman, and Jack Winnay. Key Performances: Mason White: 2-for-4, HR Adonys Guzman: 2-for-4, HR April 16: The Greenville Drive suffered another tough loss to the Hot Rods in a 9-8 defeat. Juan Valera came out of the game after the 1st inning due to elbow inflammation so the bullpen had to step up in his early absence. To start off the 3rd inning, Yophery Rodriguez hit his first home run of the season and Top prospect Yoeilin Cespedes belted a three-run homer to put Greenville in a comfortable 4-0 lead. The pitching struggled as they gave up four runs to tie the game but the Drive fought back as Cespedes hit his second home run of the game with a two-run shot in the 5th. His Greenville teammate Rodriguez hammered his second home run of the game as well with a solo shot that put them on top 7-5. The bullpen could not hold onto the lead but the Drive were still focused on coming back as they were one run shy of tying the game but they did not deliver in the 9th. With the score at 5-3 entering the 6th, things would fall as the Crawdads would regain their lead scoring three runs due to a home run, single and another run scoring from an error after a single, 6-5 Crawdads. Salem went hitless the next three innings as Hickory scored another run to end the game 7-5. Entering the 6th in a tie game, Skylar King walked and stole a base; afterwards, Ty Hodge brought him in by hitting an RBI single to make it a 4-3 game. The RidgeYaks' pitching could not hold onto the lead in the last three innings, while the bats would go hitless to end the game 5-4. Red Sox Affiliate Recap (April 7 - 9) Triple-A Worcester Red Sox April 7: The WooSox lost in heartbreaking fashion against the Columbus Clippers 14-10. With the WooSox down the entire game, the bats broke out with a four-run 7th inning due to a double from Mikey Romero that brought in two runs and a three-run homer from Matt Thaiss to put Worcester on top 10-8. That lead would not last long as Columbus scored three runs in the 8th to retain the lead and did not look back as they scored three more runs in the 9th to make it a 14-10 final. Key Performances: Kristian Campbell: 3-for-5, 2B Matt Thaiss: 2-for-2, HR, 4 RBI, 2 BB April 8: Patrick Sandoval made his first Red Sox rehab start after almost two years recovering from elbow surgery. Sandoval pitched 3.1 innings, throwing 63 pitches and averaging 92.2 MPH on his fastball and topped out at 93.5 MPH. In 2024, Sandoval averaged 93.7 on his fastball. Worcester defeats Columbus with an 8-5 victory to even the series. Entering the 4th inning with the Clippers up 3-1, the WooSox scored four runs by drawing five walks, bringing in a run on a groundout from Vinny Capra and a sacrifice fly by Kristian Campbell to put Worcester up 5-3. Columbus showed life in the 8th, tying the game up 5-5 however the Sox answered back scoring three of their own. Braiden Ward put the defense to work with a swinging bunt that forced a throwing error by the pitcher so Capra scored a run. Campbell put on another run with a bases loaded hit by pitch while Mikey Romero followed up with a sacrifice fly to make it 8-5. The unthinkable happened in the top of the 2nd inning, New Hampshire scored eight runs before recording their first hit. After striking out the side in the 1st, Hayden Mullins would walk two guys, give up a run via the sacrifice fly, then walk three straight batters and getting pulled from the game after walking in a run. Jorge Juan would come into the game and not record a single out, instead he would give up five runs including the runs Mullins was responsible for. Juan threw two wild pitches that each brought in a run, hitting two batters with the bases loaded and putting on two more runs. Juan’s night would end after walking in two more runs. Cade Feeney then came into the game and immediately threw a wild pitch bringing in the 8th run of the inning. The Fisher Cats scored their 10th run of the inning after a two-RBI single. Portland slowly cut down the deficit during the game but it was not enough. The bats were quiet up until the 6th inning after Isaiah Jackson hit an RBI groundout and Mason White hit an RBI double to tie the game 2-2. Jackson would return the favor once again in the 8th inning by hitting an RBI single, White gave Greenville a comfortable 5-3 lead after smashing a two-run homer. In the 9th, top Red Sox prospects Justin Gonzales and Yoeilin Cespedes each earned themselves an RBI, Gonzales hitting a single, Cespedes hitting a double, putting the Drive on top 7-2. Not a lot went well for Greenville Wednesday night as they would only have one hit as a team (Jack Winnay) and the only run they scored was a sacrifice fly hit by Mason White. Although, a positive from this game is Alex Bouchard throwing 4.1 scoreless innings in his season debut. Key Performance: Alex Bouchard: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 K April 9: The Greenville Drive took a 2-1 series lead as they defeated the Spartanburgers 2-0, highlighted by Juan Valera’s dominant performance. Valera pitched an impressive five innings, gave up two hits and struck out nine batters while only throwing 56 pitches. Valera topped out at 102 MPH on his fastball and 95 MPH on his changeup. Greenville only had three hits, two of which were a Henry Godbout single and Isaiah Jackson RBI triple in the 7th inning that scored their only two runs of the game. Steven Brooks was impressive as well as he pitched the last two innings and struck out six batters. Salem jumped on top in the 4th inning hitting three RBI singles each coming from Starlyn Nunez, Kleyver Salazar, and Ty Hodge to put the RidgeYaks up 4-0. Salem scored five more runs in the 5th inning thanks to some sloppy defense from the Warbirds. Stanley Tucker scored on a wild pitch, Enddy Azocar hit an RBI double, Salazar followed up with an RBI single and would then score on a throwing error after an Anderson Fermin groundout, Hodge ended the five-run 5th inning with an RBI double to put them up 9-1. Avinson Pinto hit an RBI double in the 6th inning to increase the RidgeYaks lead once again, 10-2. Key Performances: Kleyver Salazar: 4-for-5, 3 R, 2 RBI Ty Hodge: 3-for-4, 2 RBI, BB April 8: The Ridgeyaks earned their fourth win on the year and their 3rd straight win after a 6-3 victory against the Warbirds. With the Warbirds getting an early 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning, Salem answered back scoring two of their own in the 3rd inning due to IIan Fernandez hitting a sacrifice fly and Frederik Jimenez scoring on a throwing error to make it a 2-2 game. Ty Hodge ropes an RBI single in the 4th to once again tie the game 3-3. The Ridgeyaks jumped back up and gave themselves a two-run lead after Avinson Pinto reached on a fielder's choice and Jimenez hit a sacrifice fly, 5-3. Hodge earned his 2nd RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly in the 8th, bringing in Andrews Opata who hit a leadoff triple to help make it a 6-3 ballgame. Key Performances: Andrews Opata: 2-for-3, 2 R, BB Avinson Pinto: 3-for-4, RBI Brandon Neely: 2.0 IP, 5 K April 9: The Salem Ridgyaks with their fourth straight game with a close 2-1 victory versus the Wilson Warbirds. 2025 8th round pick Dylan Brown has yet to give up his first run in his first two starts of the season, throwing 3.2 shutout innings and striking out eight batters. Brown got into trouble in the 2nd inning giving up two walks and a single to load the bases with no outs, he would then strike out the next three batters he faced to get out of the jam. David Ortiz's son D’Angelo Ortiz would have a nice day at the plate going 2-for-4, including an RBI single to tie the game 1-1 in the 4th. A couple of stolen bases from Andrews Opata and Anderson Fermin, followed up with a wild pitch, gave Salem a 2-1 lead in the 8th. Wuilliams Rodriguez came back into the game in the 9th earning a win and striking out two batters.
