  1. The Sox have the strongest offensive/defensive lineup in the league(assuming Orty is signed). A solid #4 starter is the only true necessity, except for strengthening the bullpen which every team has to do every year. It's only because of the inexplicable September collapse that there's so much talk about blowing up the team.
  2. From the Cherington interview on the Sox site, it sounds like Papi will be signed before the owners meeting next week, but Papelbon won't be. He'd like to settle on a manager first, but the early activity has surprised him so he's spending more time than he expected on player contacts. Desperate for news: 3 games against Toronto next spring, brings the total to 9.
  3. Desperate attempts to explain the unexplainable. I watched every pitch of every game this year; I didn't see any player not doing the best he could. Making a big deal out of pitchers drinking beer on days they weren't going to pitch, etc. Our pitchers lost it in September. No one really knows "why".
  4. I'm assuming that Cherington is spending as much time on player signings as he is with the next manager. We don't really have to have a new manager before the end of the year, but most player signings will occur in the next few weeks.
  5. I expect the first decision will be about Ortiz. If he is signed all the money & attention will be on acquiring 2 starting pitchers.
  6. I'm guessing Cherington can walk & chew gum at the same time. He doesn't have to have a game manager before making a lot of other decisions about next years team. What will the first decision be? I'm guessing it'll be Ortiz.
