  1. Sale has lost all confidence in what used to be his put away, slam dunk pitch, his Slider. He either throws it poorly as soon as he starts throwing it in earnest in a stint and we get the avalanche of hit me please FB's then or worse we get the Saturday game. He was throwing his Slider pretty well for the way that pitch has treated him lately. But Turner hurt him on the pitch late in the stint and that was that. Sale totally abandoned the pitch. Both Sandy and Vaz appear to know when Sale simply does not want to throw his Slider anymore in a given stint and his Change is simply not good enough to carry him without the Slider. His FB isn't good enough either these days. Yet that is what we get at the point when he totally losses confidence in his Slider, an avalanche of FB's out the stint.
  2. I would pull Beni's dumb ass out of this game. Guarantee you Billy Martin would, Weaver would, Dick Williams would....I could go on. There are tons of managers that would just pull his dumb ass right out of this game.
  3. That was a heck of an effort Beni made out there. He is lucky that didn't bounce off his head Canseco style. What a jerk! Get him outta' here...seriously...get him out.
  4. Please God just go away beni....just go away. I will take a bag-a-balls and a rescue dog for him.
  5. Doing the sox a favor bringing in Kelly here
  6. Dumb AB by Turner. I am so unimpressed with both the pitching and hitting in MLB today I just don't know who to detest most. Stripling has done well tonight but good pitching performances are rare as hens teeth and Stripling could implode the very next inning.
  7. If the Dodgers just keep the bat on their shoulders Brewer will just walk them around
  8. As good as our hitting has been (when compared to our pitching) it is simply a known fact that guys that can throw good breaking stuff rip us a new *******....witness tonight's experience so far. Devers can hit them, Holt can, X can, Vaz can. The rest of them are meat to breaking stuff.
  9. Pitch count ia killing Sale. Too bad OB isn't around tonight to cream his pants over Sale K's. Now he is deep into pitch count land early in games, throws up a s*** Slider on a night when it has not been a terrible pitch for him. Gets beat on it and thats it...Here comes the armada of hit me please FB's. Does not matter who is catching either.
  10. Finally hung one and X didn't miss it
  11. Because its a game of human athletic endeavor, not computers and computer geeks though they are trying to turn it into just that.
  12. Sox have no idea what is coming for a pitch and they can't even swing at that Curve AT ALL. Totally frozen at the plate. Mesmerized by his Change also.
  13. Get me over FB's from Chris Sale. Did you ever think you would see that?
  14. Had Vaz totally set up for that FB. Sox hitters have no idea what this guy is going to throw them when and he is totally freezing them with that Curve.
  15. One hitter's discussing is another man's arguing. You want to tell me hitters don't discuss with the ump? You want to tell me pitchers don't?
  16. Hear that? Auto ump if it gets here will likely mean can't argue/comment on balls and strikes along with everything else they players and manager can not "discuss" with the umps or anybody else. Its already an utterly joyless, mainly boring game to everybody but us nutjobs (and there is not enough of us). More boredom and lack of personality should do wonders for the game's popularity.
  17. 1 run is not terrible and the last slider to Muncie was better than any Slider Sale threw in his last start.
  18. Seems to me the real question for Sale is can he throw his Slider with the same action on the ball that he needs if its to be the slam dunk pitch it is for him OR will he throw a crap Slider as so many Sliders thrown by so many pitchers that have used the pitch effectively in the past have been plagued with with year. Really beginning to wonder if they just cannot grip the pitch to get the action each individual pitcher expects to get from it. Not all pitchers have had the kind of action on their Slider that Sales has had and relies on. But the number of them being thrown up there that are just pure crap can't just be caused by the number of crap pitchers pitching in MLB today. Surely that is part of it. But we are seeing crap Sliders from pitchers with a known reputation for being successful with the pitch.
  19. Not sure there is much strange about it. You can blame Manfred for our inability to use year to year stats to measure growth or even effectiveness any longer. What would Erods stats be if they had not changed the baseball yet again? The fact is ERod's Change has turned into a real weapon for him. The problem is that it does not buy a pitcher much playing Manfred-ball. more K's maybe for what that is worth.
  20. Time to acknowledge that for all his faults ERod will be the most improved if not the only improved Red Sox pitcher this year. He has done it on the strength of one pitch really but there ya' go. It does not take much in this iteration of MLB. He is able to turn the circle of his circle change so that the circle ends up facing the catcher at the release point. As such it stays straight. He throws it outside to the RH hitters and it does not drift back over the plate which is what you would expect from a LH pitcher. He throws it inside to the LH hitters who almost to a man expect it to leak back to the inside corner which is never seems to do.
  21. You are right. That is how the ball comes out of the hand. But its not gripped in the way we think of gripping a baseball. I actually wonder if that is part of the reason why it has become so popular in the last 4-5 years. The pitcher is not trying to grip and impart rotation on the ball as much as he is fooling you with his arm speed, throwing it out of the same arm slot as his FB.
  22. See that Slider to Mookie? That is why I would simply be looking to have my pitchers abandon that pitch if they can't throw them better than that. The Change is the pitch of note for this generation of pitchers. You don't really grip that pitch. The circle change puts the thumb and index finger in the shape of a circle behind the ball and almost nothing else really on the ball and the other change grip has the ball in the back of the hand (no circle) and again almost nothing else on the ball. The pitch is all arm speed and throwing it out of the same slot as the FB.
  23. Devers...no question....then Bellinger, then Mookie.
