  1. With a seven-game lead on September 12, the Mets suffered a historic collapse by losing 12 of their last 17 games and missing the postseason. It is regarded as one of the worst collapses in MLB history.
  2. Has anyone mentioned anything about the sox conditioning? I mean how else can you explain the way they are playing. Their studs are playing like duds and their duds are playing like absolute s***. Could conditioning and fitness be an issue?
  3. I am calling it right now, the Angels are going to sneak into this. They are the only team in this race not pissing down their legs.
  4. Im with the guy who made the comment about football. Thank god it is here. But unlike most of you I am not a pats fan. I am a 49er fan, but at least they are showing signs of improvement and a possible bright future.
  5. I think this is worse. The Mets gave up to a team with a high payroll as well. The rays payroll is like 1/4 of ours.
  6. I think we can all agree that luck is a part of anything but IMHO luck plays a minor roll as opposed to the management making the right signings/hires, the players playing to the best of their abilities and the coaches putting the players in the right positions to succeed. I know example1 that your not saying that luck is the end all be all. I am more or less referring to whomever said that the yankees were more lucky than anything.
  7. People create opportunities for both good and bad luck. It is no surprise why teams in certain sports do better than others over a long period of time. It starts first with management and being able to identify diamonds in the rough, evaluating young players and having good enough talent. It also requires smart coaching staffs to put the players in the best possible situations to succeed. I believe that you create your "luck" more often than not.
  8. Don't know how you call it luck when they have comfortably made the playoffs every year except one over the last 15 years. I mean its not just luck when they are successful every year. A lot of Sox fans like to pain the picture like the yankees have all this money and they have some unfair advantages. That just isn't the case any more. We have nearly as a high of a payroll. Like I stated earlier in regards to Theo, what the guy has done in 04 and 07 deserves a lot of credit. He put together some excellent teams. I just don't think he deserves to be off limits when things go wrong. Last year IMHO he doesn't deserve heat for. This year he does, between the fat contracts of Dice K, Crawford and Lackey he deserves some criticism. When I say Theo I really mean the entire management. They all deserve the heat for whats going on. We cannot sit back with a little red sox or whoa is me attitude. We have the same resources to be as consistently good as the yankees. It is not like it used to be.
  9. I just disagree on the Crawford signing. They were shelling out a major deal to a guy whose whole game is predicated on speed. To make that kind of a commitment to a guy at 30 years old (well he turned 30 this august) is asking for trouble. As any athlete gets older the first thing to go is speed. He isn't a superb defender to make up for any batting short comings. It is easy to say this now but I was in the camp that wasn't happy with this signing when it happened because of the above mentioned.
  10. Problem is it starts with Depth. The yankees were hit by the injury bug just as much as we were this year. They lost their 8th inning guy way early in the season and their 7th inning guy early in the season. A somewhat unknown named David Robertson stepped right in and filled the void. The yankees have gotten nothing from AJ Burnett and Phil Hughes, but guess what? They got 16 wins from Ivan Nova, picked up two old cheap vets who have provided extremely serviceable numbers (Numbers that would easily make them the 3rd and 4th best pitchers on this staff). They currently have 6 bullpen arms that have a sub 3.75 era. Jeter missed a handful of games and Arod has missed nearly 40% of the season. The difference between them and us is they have depth and prepared for the inevitable injuries. Maybe they had guys play way over the head but they went and got vets that have proven themselves in places before like Colon, Garcia, Chavez and Andruw Jones. We decided to make our bench up of guys like McDonald who has failed his entire Major League career, same with Miller and Wakefield (although despite having a 4.41 career era the guy has 200 wins, I guess that can happen when you pitch for 100 years)
  11. I hate post game news conferences by coaches. Its such cliche ********. You know deep down inside he wants to say "Christ all mighty ask Reddick why he cant field a line drive, ask Bedard why hes always hurt and when he's not able to rebound to get one single out after a s***** error."
  12. If they miss the playoffs, he will be the one to take the sword when in truth it has been the horrendous fielding, starting staff, and bullpen. I don't know what he could do about the players constant short comings but Theo deserves so much blame. So many bad acquisitions.
  13. Sure hope your right man. I am just getting sick to my stomach every night with this team lately. As for the outfield play, I feel like its like watching the LLWS. It's just amazing to me how many times over the past two days that I have seen major league athletes misplaying balls while fielding. Not to just pile on Theo but my god his outfield investments have been god awful. JD Drew is a vagina, Crawford is just mind boggling.
  14. I feel like he has been so jittery because of nerves. I don't know if he is ready for important games.
  15. Seriously though, why the hell does Papelbon never throw his splitter anymore?
  16. Theo must not be sleeping lately. So much of this s*** roster is on him.
  17. This is like watching a family member turned junkie and being able to do absolutely nothing about it. This is maddening.
