    Yeah, these things could have been said about Ortiz in 2005. I think the wrist has gotten to the point where it's messed him up mentally.

    I think compared to other catchers (which I believe is how it is done) Varitek will be a type A largely in part to his decent 2007 season. The caveat with offering him arb is that no case that has gone to arb has resulted in the player getting a lower salary than the year before. It's conceivable to think Varitek could get a one year deal worth about $12 million in arb - which would be inexcusable for the Sox to offer, IMO.

    I'd be more than happy with a Brown/Kottaras platoon. That stat is misleading because it's directly tied to Tm Wakefield's performance, and he is a .500 pitcher.

    We have a "replacing the captain" thread, but I'm curious to see what this board feels the FO should do with Jason Varitek this offseason. Me? I voted "No offers whatsoever". It's time to move on. I don't want to run the risk of offering arb, no multi year deals, nothing. What does everyone else think?

    The Red Sox and Phillies have similar numbers of non-white players, but since the Phillies minority players are really good, it's OK. I mean, really.

    And Ellsbury should be listed as non-white as American Guardians are a minority. So 30% of the 40-man roster is non-white.

(Dominican descent) Lugo is hurt but to my knowledge is still on the 40-man (Dominican descent) Colon ran away and hid in the DR, not their fault. If we look at the 40 man, these are the non-white players: David Ortiz Julio Lugo Hideki Okajima Daisuke Matsuzaka Javier Lopez Manny Delcarmen Alex Cora Coco Crisp Devern Hansack Argenis Diaz Bartolo Colon 11 out of 40, and you could classify Ellsbury and Lowell as non-white as well. If you look at soxprospects.com's top 25, the following are of non-white descent: Stolmy Pimentel Oscar Tejeda Luis Exposito Che-Hsuan Lin Argenis Diaz Michael Almanzar Yamaico Navarro Felix Doubront Completely irresponsible journalism.

    I agree. I'd wager Ortiz hits at least 35 if he stays healthy next season. He also produced when Manny missed time last year.
