I've been in Chicago for the past few days so I didn't have a chance to come on here when the trade happened so here are my thoughts:
First of all, great trade. I'm still amazed that we turned all of our largest contracts into all-star players who are actually worth the money rather than players like Wally, Theo, Raef, or Blount holding huge contracts. This trio will be an outstanding force in the eastern conference and I never would have imagined that our youth could be exhanged for such a combination of stars. We are in for some great basketball for the next few years and it's all but guaranteed that this team has what it takes to make a splash in the eastern conference playoffs and maybe even the NBA Finals if this team really gels.
Many people talk about how much we gave up...I disagree.
Al Jefferson will be good...not great. He isn't the next Moses Malone or Kevin Garnett. I see him as being a Chris Webber/Jermaine O'Neal type player if he stays healthy and continues to develop but he will never be Garnett.
Gerald Green is the next Kedrick Brown. I can just tell that Danny and Doc were waiting to get rid of him and I don't think he'll ever amount to the T-Mac hype that koolaid drinking fans were throwing around.
Ryan Gomes is a solid player but will be a bench player on a good team. He'll never be a superstar.
Sebastian Telfair is an undersized point guard who still has a chance to develop but the defining moment in his career will most likely be when he decided to go pro rather than join Rick Pitino in the NCAA.
Theo Ratliff is just a contract and nothing more. Consider him finished.
Kevin Garnett will team up with Pierce and Allen to form an unbelievable trio and as KG put it, "a force to be reckoned with".
By the way, the only negative in this whole situation is the fact that the days of buying a $20 or $30 ticket and moving down towards the floor are over...and the garden will fill up with the same bandwagon fans that went into hibernation the past two seasons. For the record, I've been a fan throughout the whole painful journey to this moment and whether you agree with me or not on some issues, you know I've been here this whole way.
True celtics fans, the days of the draft lottery and seeing players like Oriene Greene or Wally Szczerbiak with the ball in their hands in the clutch are over...we have ourselves a contender.
