Who do we keep, who do we trade ?
ksushi replied to Sox Fan on Cape's topic in Red Sox Minor League Talk
Well, they say he hasnt hit this year simply because Hanley is bored and disinterested with AA and maybe the minor leagues in general. I think he sees being in AA as kind of a slap in the face. In the Futures All Star game he played great, he steps up his play to match the level of competition, I wouldn't be surprised if he was capable of hitting .260 in the major leagues right now. He's a quality player. I don't think that they could get fair value for him considering how high his ceiling is, but i would trade him for the right price. A good young starter and a reliever is my price. So basically I wouldn't trade him cause no one would give that. -

I'd be very interested in Pena from the Reds, hes 23 with MONSTER power. Freel is awfully interesting himself, hes very good. No none sense is exactly how you should describe him.

but another fact is that you can't just sit a guy who should be starting somewhere for the next three years just because you can, it doesnt make sense to have that value sitting on your bench when you can take it and put it to better use and acquire production. Shoppach isnt part of the big picture and when you have a farm system like ours you can afford to part with young blood, and guess what, hes the first name on the chopping block. -
Is Aaron Rowand an FA? My friend said he is but I hadn't heard anything. And considering that Rowand is in the playoffs and ive watched all the whitesox games, i thought i would have heard something.

It isn't hard to call its very hard to catch, so you trade kelly and keep mirabelli because that is the good baseball move. It just is, fall out of puppy love with your boy kelly and look at whats best for the organization. What would other teams like in a trade? Young catcher with high ceiling (that we wont ever use) or fat old guy who has spent the last three years only playing every five days ( but does the job we need him to do). You can't just waste shoppachs value by keeping him in a backup role for the next three years, thats a waste. you move him and keep the useful but fat old guy. -
Payton is an awesome ball player, and i wish we never did trade him because that trade for bradford was a waste IMO. Especially now that you are probably going to be shopping for a center fielder, you wouldn't have to if you had Payton. Vazquez for Cora was huge. We didn't "rape" the padres, but we took advantage of the Guardians alittle bit. Vazquez was definetly a downgrade on Cora. I love Cora. The deal with the padres was a pretty good deal, I wish we kept payton, but hey not everything works out the way I want it to otherwise we would have traded Damon in July when his value was huuuge, but thats just me.

But thats also why you trade him. Is shoppach ever going to play catcher here full time? No. Is mirabelli a bad back up? Certainly not. Don't fix what isn't broken, I think you trade the young kid over the old man. Mirabelli has about the same trade value as ted williams and hes in an ice cube tray somewhere, but Mirabelli is a good back up guy to have. Shoppach could be a good chip to throw in a deal to make some team happy enough to trade us Huff if we send the right guys to go along with him. Like an arroyo shoppach and somebody deal for huff, something along those lines. -
[Rumor] Theo to San Diego, Cashmen to Boston?
ksushi replied to ClayBuchholzIsDaFuture's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
Cashman is probably on the go, I think he'll end up with the phillies. However, if theo did leave, which is a real possibility, not likely, but its possible, my second pick would be Cashman. He would build our farm system and make good moves. Hes a good GM. Its not his fault George has a hard on for offering to much money over to many years to guys who are to old. I'd rather him over just about anybody else available. -
yeah, i see the sox staying in house with third base, i think they're more likely to try and get overbay or huff and put youk at third.
-
What AL east pitcher? I think it said NL east, and they meant Tim Worrell.
-
Guys, Manny wants to go to the Expo's, he loves the city of Montreal, and canadian people in general, theres a few snags but nothing they can't get passed. I believe Manny will be traded to Montreal and will be the Montreal left fielder, and only professional baseball player next year. I don't know what we can get in return, maybe a mountee and a canoe? I think this deal gets done.

I have felix on my fantasy keeper team. My whole league fell asleep on him. I wonder if theo will be wrapped up by the general managers meetings that are coming up around the corner. I think he will be back, I don't think they can make this big of a mistake and let him go. None of the people in the negotiations are speaking publically about it so just about everything we've been hearing can be taken as rumor or hearsay, because to be honest, the ownership knows what they have on their hands and they aren't going to let a guy like theo slip between the cracks. I don't believe that they would just blatently low ball him like that, we aren't talking about big money here we're talking to wrap him up maybe 1.5 million a year. WHO CARES! It could be the biggest no brainer in sox history. Well thats an overstatement but still it might be. The ownership was going to expand the payroll for bullpen anyways, so whatever, money won't be the issue, King Theo shall return.
-
I think so, if he picks up where he left off he could end up being a May call up.
-
Oh, and I also agree with MC, if anyone were to play second next year that wasn't pedroia I would want it to be Tony G, i think Soriano is better for a team that needs offense, but for a team like the sox with Offense coming out of everywhere, we need the kind of all around beastness that is Tony G. Hes good offensivly, and good defensivly. If it isn't pedroia, its him.
-
wait when did i say soriano should sign a one year deal? I hate soriano on the sox, love him somewhere else, just not here. I know how FA contracts work, and what kind of money/years he will command on the market next year, but hes not even an FA, so why would we talk about signing him for one year anyways? We'd be giving up the next ten years of our future to get him for this season if we did get him, I don't want him for that one season. I'm confused.
-
I doubt he would end up the next yankee GM, I see no way the sox ownership lets him go. I don't know how I would feel if they did but I'd be upset, they'd be just about throwing away all the progress our farm system has made, thats what i thinkk.

Yeah I think Dinardo will be with the big club full time next season. Papelbon will start so that makes Lenny the long relief man. I think Alvarez can be useful, but why keep shoppach over mirabelli? There is nothing wrong with Mirabelli. Hes a great guy to have go every five days and excellent club house guy. Trade shoppach you can get more for him. -
Who do we keep, who do we trade ?
ksushi replied to Sox Fan on Cape's topic in Red Sox Minor League Talk
I would keep lester and sanchez no matter what. I really like our prospects, but i would deal ramirez, not pedroia though, he is to close to the bigs. Keep papelbon, Hansen, Delcarmen, Youk, Lester, Sanchez, and trade Moss, Murphy, Ramierez or Shoppach. I don't think we will sign nomar, nor should we, hes was great but he doesnt have the durability to be healthy through a whole season. So, whatever, no big deal. Pedroia is a guy who the sox should not let get away, or he will become another David Eckstein. Think the sox don't want Eckstein back? -
First off, I hate Soriano and i will be a Nats fan if they trade for him, especially if they traded Lester, Papelbon, Hansen, Delcarmen, Pedroia or Hanley for him. Which they would have to. Forget it. Pedroia is the future. However, I would do a Arroyo and Abe Alvarez for Huff for sure. I would do clement for huff. I love huff, I love his versatility, LF RF 1b 3b, and i love his bat. He is the man. I think the sox should trade for him, or sign overbay when milwaukee doesnt offer him arbitration. Overbay would be an excellent option, hes a doubles hitter and fenway is a doubles park. This is a stretch, but they could sign both if they traded nixon, which is a remote possiblity, but i dont know what the odds of that are. Trot for X Stop Gap second basemen and prospect? Enter Overbay and Huff? Who knows.
-
Lyle Overbay is elligible for arbitration and the brewers aren't going to pay him, hes going to walk. They could sign him if they don't opt to trade for Huff. I like Huff alittle more, but they're both plus options.

I don't know you at all, I haven't ever had the oppurtunity to talk to you unfortunetly, but man, keep you're head up, stay positive, never let yourself think there isn't hope because they're always is. Find a way man, there always is one. I hope things end up o.k. I'm sorry, man. Get well. - andy

Why has only one person really mentioned hansen? My pitching rotation Schilling - Going to have a better season, what people forget is that he was basically having his spring training in august, and that accounted for a lot of his bad starts. He never got a chance to get into a groove but when we asked him to dig deep and come up with a good start, he did. He'll be good. And he won't be thrown in the bullpen at all next year, which i'm sure can mess with a guy whose trying to come back from an injury like that and be a starter. He's fine. Burnett - I think theo needs to come up with a big signing and remember when we were going to try and trade for him at the deadline? John Henry said we wouldn't need a window to resign him because he was willing to expand his payroll to pay him whatever he wanted. I think we will land him. Miller - Wade had surgery a couple weeks ago, i haven't heard how it went, but when matt morris had the same problem and elected to go without surgery, he had a bad 2004, after surgery he had a very nice 2005 and miller has better stuff then him to begin with. Miller has the potential to be scary. Papelbon - In 3 starts this season he really impressed me, and he got a lot of expierence this year in the post season, this kid is special, and he will be special for a long time to come. Clement - I think that this spot is a toss up between clement and wake, but I think when it comes down to it, clement will get the nod. Wake is willing to go to the bullpen anyways, and he would be a great long relief/middle relief guy. I don't think its that clement is better, I think its that wake would be more valubale in the bullpen then clement and clement still has some upside as a starter, hes a good pitcher. Pen - Delcarmen Dinardo Hansen BJ Ryan - I'd take ryan over wagner anyday, wagner would be more $$ and would want to close, I think hansen will close next year and i think he should close, theres no reason to pay someone else big bucks to close for the next couple of years when you have a guy like hansen. Ryan understand he could be a bridge, and he'd be great for it. Arroyo if he isn't traded Wake Mantei - He throws gas, and our bullpen would have been formittable if he stayed healthy. I think Jon Lester will be next years papelbon, I think that about midway through the year or earlier he will be put in the pen or given some spot starts. I think he will impress and stay in the ML. I don't think that the sox will trade manny, I think they want to, but I don't think they can. He's just too expensive and you will never get enough in return. Why break up the best 3-4 combo in the game if you can't match that production? It all comes down to production, you want to free up the money, to use that money to get more production, I don't think thats possible, not this year. They'll wait out the contract. I think arroyo will be traded, I think he'll be traded to tampa for huff. I think Arroyo and Shoppach could land us huff this offseason.
-
Why do you want to get soriano instead of going with young prospects? It doesn't make sense. sure hes a good player and is really tempting on the market, but pedroia is sooo good defensivly, ive seen him play and its great to watch, you definetly want pedroia at second next season
