Now, just three days later, the state of the position looks much different and with apologies to Bryan, it’s time for an update. It started during Tuesday’s game against the Yankees, when Marcelo May...2374Fri, 21 Mar 2025 10:55:01 +0000https://talksox.com/news-rumors/boston-red-sox/boston-red-sox-2025-position-analysis-third-base-r2372/When the Red Sox signed Alex Bregman, the assumption was that he would fill the hole at second base, but in Rafael Devers' absence, he has spent all of his time at third base during spring training. Due to a lingering shoulder issue, Devers is not expected to play any time at the hot corner this...2372Thu, 20 Mar 2025 14:03:01 +0000https://talksox.com/news-rumors/boston-red-sox/boston-red-sox-2025-position-analysis-second-base-r2371/When Alex Bregman signed with the Red Sox, he seemed likely to end up as the everyday second baseman. Rafael Devers has been dealing with a lingering shoulder injury but is expected to make his spring debut this week. With his late spring start, he will likely start the season as the designated...2371Wed, 19 Mar 2025 12:31:46 +0000https://talksox.com/news-rumors/boston-red-sox/vaughn-grissom-needs-a-change-of-scenery-already-r2369/Bleacher Report recently listed Vaughn Grissom as a prime candidate for a change of scenery. Honestly, they probably aren’t wrong. Grissom hasn’t lived up to the hopes the Red Sox front office put in him with they traded Chris Sale for him before the 2024 season. Grissom has looked overmatched a...2369Tue, 18 Mar 2025 14:01:00 +0000https://talksox.com/news-rumors/boston-red-sox/boston-red-sox-2025-position-analysis-right-field-r2368/In 2024, right field was a pleasant surprise for the Red Sox, as Wilyer Abreu proved himself to be a more than capable starting outfielder. Entering the season, it was assumed that Abreu would take over the starting right field position following the trade of Alex Verdugo to the New York Yankees...2368Tue, 18 Mar 2025 10:59:00 +0000https://talksox.com/news-rumors/boston-red-sox/boston-red-sox-2025-position-analysis-center-field-r2370/Alex Cora told the media early in the offseason that Ceddanne Rafaela would see most of his time at center field. That is a very good thing. It locks up a key position and hopefully brings another Gold Glove to the Boston outfield in 2025. Making sure Rafaela plays his main position will be a ma...2370Mon, 17 Mar 2025 15:01:02 +0000https://talksox.com/news-rumors/boston-red-sox/baseballs-effect-on-japan-united-states-relations-r2361/Walt Whitman, the preeminent American poet (and, briefly, baseball beat reporter) wrote, “I see great things in baseball. It's our game - the American game. It will repair our losses and be a blessing to us.” Whitman’s sentiments ring true - at least for the nineteenth century, when baseball was...2361Mon, 17 Mar 2025 14:03:01 +0000https://talksox.com/news-rumors/boston-red-sox/were-not-dreaming-big-enough-on-garrett-crochet-r2365/I was at the Winter Meetings in Dallas when word got out about the trade that brought Garrett Crochet to the Red Sox. I was just sitting down in a giant ballroom to watch the Rule 5 Draft, and the person at the table in front of mine turned to his neighbor and said, “Crochet to the Red Sox.” Eve...2365Mon, 17 Mar 2025 10:59:02 +0000https://talksox.com/news-rumors/boston-red-sox/boston-red-sox-2025-position-analysis-left-field-r2366/With Jarren Duran back in the outfield and sliding over to left field from center field, the Red Sox might have one of the best defensive outfields this season. Left field was one of the most consistent for the Red Sox last season, as they only used three players: Duran, Rob Refsnyder, and...2366Sun, 16 Mar 2025 10:58:01 +0000https://talksox.com/news-rumors/boston-red-sox/boston-red-sox-2025-position-analysis-designated-hitter-r2363/Looking at the designated hitter options for the 2025 Red Sox reminds me of a classic choose-your-own-adventure book. For Masataka Yoshida, turn to page four. For Rafael Devers, turn to page eight. At this point in spring training, there’s not a really clear indicator of which way the coaching s...2363Sat, 15 Mar 2025 10:58:00 +0000https://talksox.com/news-rumors/boston-red-sox/with-lucas-giolito-down-red-sox-depth-will-pay-dividends-r2364/They always say you can never have too much pitching, and the Boston Red Sox are proving that true. With news that Lucas Giolito will open the season on the injured list, the Red Sox have now seen three starters shut down this spring. Kutter Crawford went down first, dealing with a knee issue th...2364Fri, 14 Mar 2025 10:50:01 +0000https://talksox.com/news-rumors/boston-red-sox/boston-red-sox-2025-position-analysis-first-base-r2360/Triston Casas is primed for a breakout year in 2025 if he can stay healthy. He was robbed of that opportunity last year by the rib cartilage injury that sidelined him for the bulk of the season. The other effect of that injury was to showcase just how thin the Red Sox are at the first base posit...2360Thu, 13 Mar 2025 14:03:02 +0000
