Dave Roberts proved to be some very useful legs in 2004.
The Yankees could go 0-162 and it wouldn't be enough

I get the risk: I still take Casas.

Vlad is not a sure bet, either.

The Rays May trade Zach Eflin, a SPer Bloom made an offer to a couple years back. His contract seems designed for a Ray’s trade: he’s owed $18M in 2025 on his $40M/3 deal. I’d prefer a deal like this to a 2 month rental, despite the higher return needed.

A good rental might be trading for Flaherty from the Tigers.

Maybe we try to get Kopech back.

Just thinking of nonsplash trades, something maybe more possible.

Sometimes I have the sneaking suspicion that the Sox FO and JH himself could do worse than read the comments on this thread. Not my comments, of course.

    Eflin is another good target…

Not Flaherty. At least not until his back can be cleared medically…

    That was understood.

Perhaps, even if he looks healthy, the injury risk is prohibative.

I’m not seeing many great options for pitchers that can help but not cost a too 8-9 prospect.

Wildcard standings the Red Sox are there. 1 game up in the loss colum. Buy, buy, and buy again. It doesn’t have to be a rental either. Like Cora just recently said that this team can be made better. Let’s see what Brez is made of.

Certain players that can't be traded away IMO, such as Mayer, Anthony, Campbell, Teel, Cespedes, Yorke, Meidroth (the new greek god of walks). These guys are untouchables. I would be open to moving Grissom (still highly regarded), Hamilton (if some team is desperate for his speed and will overpay), Valdez. The Red Sox could promote Yorke or Meidroth and give him the starting 2b job. Should the Red Sox be in the market for a starting SS along with a SP?

Hamilton and Valdez for a rental starting pitcher or a decent right hand bat.
We still have speed with Romy or even Abreu.

Hamilton is just not good for speed, but quality AB's and versatility. He looks to me like a guy who's more valuable to the Sox than other teams.
    WAR is good for something.

I agree with this for sure. He provides something very important and the bottom line for me is that he doing what he is doing at the big league level.

I’ve never understood what this is supposed to mean.

I see the points about Hamilton. Just not sure why those would only appeal to the Red Sox…
