Thread: 2024 Yankees Season Thread

Volope is hitting .169 in his last 30 games with a .200 on-base percentage.

Jackson, I'm sure you agree that it is time for the Jeter Downs era to begin in Yankees land?

I kinda hope the Yanks trade away as much of their future for another failed ring run.

Yankees call up Jorbit Vivas. I'm assuming they will start him at 3b and stop playing DJ Lemahieu?

They acquired Vivas from the Dodgers in that Trey Sweeny trade from last year. Actually, it sounds like Vivas is not an ideal fit for 3b (weak arm) and fits better at 2b. Could the Yankees play Vivas at 2b and move Torres to 3b? For obvious reasons, they need to get Lemahieu out of the lineup.

Vivas' AAA numbers aren't overly impressive. But he doesn't strikeout very much and will work some counts. Maybe he is simply a utility player and not expected to get significant playing time?

    Verdugo is a perfect Yankee.

We have not gotten great results from that trade, yet, but making room for Abreu, Rafaela and Ref worked like a charm.

Watch it here: the Yankees ninth inning comeback against the Orioles and the Yankees epic collapse in the bottom of the ninth, highlighted by Volope's error on a routine grounder and Verdugo falling on his face.

How does Volope miss a routine ground ball like that? Jeter Downs makes that play.

Almost as fun to watch as the Sox win!

I don't know how Verdugo ever grades out well defensively because whenever I'm paying attention he looks average with a propensity to make bonehead plays. I don't get it.

Plus he can throw hard, but no one knows where it’s going. He’s what would happen if Nuke LaLoosh played outfield…

Funnily enough both Volpe and Verdugo made great plays earlier in the game (Volpe laid out for a liner that would've scored a run, and Verdugo ran down a deep ball in Baltimore's massive left field in the 8th that helped keep the score close). It was very odd (and infuriating) to see them both flub a routine play consecutively with the game on the line. Maybe they bet on the O's?

    Gil is pitching well again.

If the Yankees make a move for a closer that could give them a boost.

I'm enjoying their struggles but not counting them dead. They came very close to sweeping the O's.
Championships since purchase by John Henry group: Red Sox 4 Yankees 1

The Red Sox are 8-1 in their last 9 postseason games against the Yankees.

I could see Carlos Estevez going to the Yankees…

Probably. Lifetime ban for Verdugo please.
