    Braves extend Sale

The Braves and left-hander Chris Sale have agreed to a new deal, which will pay him $38MM over the next two years. There’s also an $18MM club option for 2026. Sale was already under contract via an extension he previously signed with the Red Sox but this will overwrite that.

So, in effect, after subtracting the $17M we are paying, they get Sale for $21/2, or $10.5M x 2, actual cost.

That looks better than our Kluber and Richards deals.

Regardless, the Red Sox won the trade because of Grissom, according to BTV.

The Red Sox are 8-1 in their last 9 postseason games against the Yankees.

I'm liking the trade more and more, as I read about Grissom, and remember the recent years of calling Chris freakin' Sale, Freakin' Chris Sale.

It is Bizarro World when trading Chris Sale plus 17 million bucks for a little known prospect is considered a win. But who am I to doubt the expert geeks who go by the name BTV ?

Grissom is not "little known" among those who pay attention to the top ranked prospects in baseball. I heard of him long before I checked his BTV numbers.

The trade may backfire, spectacularly in two ways (or both):

Sale could do great with ATL.

Grissom may be the next Downs.

Maybe someone who could look at Sale’s (complete lack of a) track record since 2019…

Just think of BTV as Big Tony Vincenzo. Tony's job is much like that of the guys who set the NFL point spreads.

Does Tony have a degree in mathematics from MIT like Jeff Sagarin does?
