You would have whined a lot about the low IP count.

100% wrong. You don't know me as well as you seem to think you do.
Championships since purchase by John Henry group: Red Sox 4 Yankees 1

The Red Sox are 8-1 in their last 9 postseason games against the Yankees.

I do think he pitched more innings than you expected from him, after leaving NYY and getting older, along the way.

    111 IP '18 (TOR & BOS) + 22 POs= 133
    68 IP '19
    182 IP '21 + 21 POs= 202
    109 IP '22
    144 IP '23 (TEX) + 37 POs=181
When you say it's gonna happen now
    When exactly do you mean?

Obviously talking about the 144 IP in the regular season. This team would not have made the playoffs with that contribution alone. It's not a criticism of Eovaldi's postseason. You should answer what I post, not what you want to think I posted.

Agreed. I doubt Nate & Eflin get us to glory in '23.

I know you were talking about regular season IP, but I think it is fair to point out the guy pitched 37 IP in the playoffs. That is not a common number for the postseason. He only pitched 22 IP in the '18 playoffs. This should count for something, when we are talking about his time pitching. (I get it: if we miss the playoffs, because he misses time in the regular season, what good is his playoff resume.)

BTW, 144 IP would be second on the '23 Sox and just 13 IP below #1.

He had a 3.1 bWAR, 2.5 fWAR, so he earned his contract. Nobody that's followed his career would have projected him for more than 150-160 innings, so the 144 wasn't disastrously low.

He would have been #2 in innings on the Red Sox.

He earned his contract on a rate basis. But the best ability is availability.

Well, that's a bit of a simplification. Pivetta has been our most durable pitcher the last few years, but I don't think that makes him our ace.

We have too many players that are good at one thing but not others.

Pivetta is most durable but is inconsistent with performance.
Devers and Casas are great hitters but horrible on D.
Duran has the speed but it doesn't seem to help him get to a plus on D.
I could go on and on.

How many very good and all around solid and dependable players do we have?

One. The guy who plays Neil Diamond in the 7th inning of every single game, rain or shine, win or lose... signifying to all to get up, stretch, sing, dance, and sprint to the beer line for last call.

Can we trade him for an ace? I'll throw in Dugo and Mata.
