As much as adding a top SP'er to our team was essential, this past winter, let's look how the big shots are doing, so far....

    Salary SP'er ERA/FIP
    $37M x 5 deGrom 2.67/ 1.63

    $27M x 6 Rodon no IP

    $43M x 2 Verlander 6 IP

    $15M x 5 Senga 4.15/ 5.46

    $18M x 4 Walker 4.97/ 5.24

    $17M x 4 Taillon 14 IP 4.50/ 1.92

    $21M x 3 Bassitt 4.82/ 5.67

    $13.3M x 3 Eflin 3.00/ 3.78 (The guy Bloom wanted first.)
    $13M x 3 T Anderson 5.74/ 6.39
    $17M x 2 Eovaldi 5.20/ 2.23 (before tonight's masterpiece)

When you say it's gonna happen now
    When exactly do you mean?

Eflin and Eovaldi are going to be the ones that hurt, I think.
Championships since purchase by John Henry group: Red Sox 4 Yankees 1

The Red Sox are 8-1 in their last 9 postseason games against the Yankees.

Let's see if Nate makes it through a full season of even 25 starts.

The Eflin one may hurt more, since we could have signed him over Kluber and still re-set.

Depending on what numbers you believe, the same could be said of Eovaldi's contract.

True, some have us $7M under.

    Eovaldi?

He was a good pitcher when healthy. But he wasn’t healthy all that often. And at 33, it’s a situation that’s only going to get worse. Texas signed him for 2 yrs $32mill with a vesting option for 2025. I would be surprised if that option (which requires 300 IP) ever vests.

Eflin would have been nice, despite his lack of any track record as a starter…

Senga has given up 5 HRs in 26IP. How did we miss out on this obvious fit for the rotation?

I don't think Eovaldi is much more of a question mark than most pitchers these days. And the price was far from exorbitant.

Well the best bargain so far is a guy who:

    1. Cost $3.5 mill for one year, so no risk
    2. Has a 1.86 ERA/1.00 WHIP
    3. Once played for Boston
    4. And Joe Castiglione once hinted was a major league asshole.

Castiglione might be right, but Wade Miley has spent the bulk of his career as a massively underrated pitcher…

Eovaldi isn't Kluber, Sale or Paxton in their prime -- but he's better than all of them and a legit #2 right now. That's something the Sox don't have.

How much better would Boston be with Nate, who started more games and with a better ERA than any Sox in April... and with Bogaerts (and the return of the juiced ball) at short?

    Legit #2 for April- agreed.

The thing about Nate is, when he's on, he's about as good as anyone in the game.

Not sure, but given he just completed 4 years with Boston and made 73 (out of 128) possible starts and ended his career with them injured, I’m not surprised he didn’t come back. Whether it was because Boston didn’t want him back out because Texas simply offered more money, I’m not sure…

We did offer a QO. Texas basically gave him a QO x 2 yrs.
