BREAKING: Star third baseman Rafael Devers and the Boston Red Sox are finalizing an 11-year, $331 million contract, sources familiar with the agreement tell ESPN.
The deal is not done. The physical process hasn't started. But in the end, Devers is expected to remain in Boston.

It's a good deal. As other teams have shown, the extra long terms of these deals make the deals more luxury-tax friendly ... Devers has a good chance to generate that value with a few years to spare.
He will be just 31 years old when year 6 begins, making the majority of this 11 year deal within prime.
That's what makes extending Devers a better idea than 11 years for Bogey, or maybe even 6-7 years for Bogey.

I thought they might start the extension, this year, but apparently it begins in 2024.

I’ll say I was wrong tomorrow that JH would open his checkbook, and shell out this much money after I recover from the shock tonight. I don’t like these long $300M deals, but I’m glad Raffy’s in the fold.

He's entering his prime as well so that was a no-brainer deal. At least we got one move right going to the future.
