Wakabayashi apparently could not translate the coaches instructions to Masataka very well, leading to numerous collisions with the LF wall, and to numerous topped grounders to 1B or 2Bman, sometimes the pitcher. Cora is taking a Babbel course in Japanese this off season.

Apparently, the old interpreter was mixing up "swing" with "take."
When you say it's gonna happen now
    When exactly do you mean?

The interpreter told Masa to only prepare for a 100 game season rather than a 162 game season.

Yoshida says he’s going to workout to get stronger for next year. I hope he can still fit into those high pants.

He also mentioned that he wanted to give results that Red Sox fans could be proud of and that he realized that he relies on the support structure of his family for success (they were gone for a portion of the season).

Now he’s got a taste of life of American MLB, and the everyday rigors, so now he knows more of what to expect, and should be more ready next year.

He apparently didn't even have a good translator this year!

Bad translator, longer season, no family... No wonder he slumped at the end of the year.

Yoshida had a 109 OPS+ his rookie year. Same as Hideki Matsui. Hopefully he can carve out a similar career…

No family considerations? It's surprising he even agreed to tell a translator to interview for the Red Sox opening.

A really great poster compared the two players' numbers in previous posts. I think there should be a 2nd year bump.

I'm hopeful there is a "bump," but it always seems to happen to someone we least expect it from.

    This year, it was Duran.
