Thread: Yankees 2022 playoff thread

It's a crapshoot. Two basically evenly matched teams in a short series . One or two key plays make the difference between winning or losing. No sense trying to over analyze it. A game of inches. As John Sterling so aptly puts it , " That's baseball , Suzyn. "
    Old school is good school.

Yanks need to make contact. That is it. They cannot continue to K at this rate and win. They are getting some guys on base and then blow it by swinging for the fences. Make contact, get on base and play the small ball you were playing the first 3 months of the year. If they cannot generate runs, they will not win. Waiting for the homer run ball against a team that doesn't give up any is a fool's errand
    Hal sucks

The team was built on relying on the HR. It's too late to change the tiger's stripes.
When you say it's gonna happen now
    When exactly do you mean?

Yeah, but it wasn’t. They made some changes in the off-season aimed at making more contact and for the first 3 months it worked swimmingly. Once mid July rolled around, they started striking out more, trying to hammer bombs, and the offense sputtered. Removing IKF from the lineup doesn’t help contact. Bringing in Higgy for Trevino doesn’t help. Having Donaldson in when you’ve got Peraza on the bench doesn’t help. Boone needs to put a contact oriented team on the field tonight or we will waste Cole’s efforts

Here’s the deal. I definitely blame Boone for game 1. We had a pen that was ready. We went with our rookie who’s scuffling and a guy just off the IL rather than the bridge we are accustomed to. Game 2 was unavoidable due to the lack of hitting, but we also had some small ball chances and we kept swinging for the fences while also putting a lineup out there that doesn’t make contact. Boone screwed up a lot in the ALDS but the Guardians sucked bad enough not to be able to close us out. You can’t make managerial mistakes vs the Astros, you just can’t

Disagree 100%. Loaisiga had thrown 2 innings and 25 pitches the day before. Surely you weren't expecting him to do that again.

That’s true. Also didn’t take into account losing DJ and Beni, 2 high contact guys

    A little true.

    1st half>2nd half
    K% 21.9%>23.3%
    BB% 10.4%>9.6%
    ISO .199>.166

While you guys K'd more, walked less, the biggest change was in your ISO. You may have swung more for the fences, but you became less successful at hitting HRs.

You guys did try to change the dynamic. You dumped Gallo and added Beni, but the injury bug came b ack to bite your ass on that one.

Lowest K% (Top 9 by PA)
    13.1 LeMahieu
    13.6 Kiner-Falefa
    17.6 Trevino
    18.4 Rizzo

    22.6 Torres
    24.1 Hicks
    25.1 Judge
    27.1 Donaldson
    30.3 Stanton

The two players you count on the most are among your biggest K men.

Peraza had 57 PAs, this year. Here are the rest of the players with 100-350 PAs
    17.6% Trevino
    19.1% Beni
    21.0% Higgy
    22.0% Andujar
    22.7 Carpenter
    25.7 Cabrera
    26.1 Marwin
    38.8% Gallo

    Your lowest BA players:
    .159 Gallo
    .185 Marwin
.211 Stanton (The new Dave Kingman)
    .216 Hicks
    .222 Donaldson
    .224 Rizzo
    .227 Higgy
    .229 Andujar

    .247 Cabrera
    .248 Trevino
    .254 Beni
    .257 Torres & LeMahieu

    .305 Carpenter
    .306 Peraza
    .311 Judge

Big game today in the Boogie Down Bronx. Gut check time for the Yankees .

Yanks shooting themselves in the foot. Dropped ball by Bader which would of been a 7 pitch inning for Cole and ended the inning. Next batter promptly hits a 2 run jack
