I had to run that through BTV.

Overpay in terms of surplus value, but rejected due lack of a sufficient headliner. (And I had to eliminate Bruns because it doesn’t allow an infinite amount of players to be traded.)

But in reality, Rizzo should be fired if he turned that deal down. Then he should be re-hired immediately just so he could be fired again…

Why did Soto turn down the offer? Is it because he wants to play somewhere else and he is willing to take a lesser contract to play with a team where he'll be happier? Or did he turn it down because he thinks he can get an even bigger contract? I can get on board with the former, not so much with the latter.
From what ESPN says, he turned it down because he'd be the 15th highest AAV.
    Priorities:
    1. Yankees lose
    2. Red Sox win

I thought the AAV was a bit low.

The thing is, a 15 year deal is crazy, but a lot less crazy if the player is 23…

So, would he take $430/14 or $415/13?
When you say it's gonna happen now
    When exactly do you mean?

Something tells me it's the number after the dollar sign that matters most to Soto. And he turned down $440.

So I'd say no and no.
Championships since purchase by John Henry group: Red Sox 4 Yankees 1

The Red Sox are 8-1 in their last 9 postseason games against the Yankees.

    So, $500M/25?

    Lol

I read something similar this morning. He wants the highest contract in MLB history, but he also wants one of the top AAVs. In other words, it's all about the money and his ego.

    No thanks.

It was speculated that he might have taken the $440M deal for fewer years, thereby raising the AAV. Maybe $440M for 12 years? Either way, that's a crazy amount.

Apparently, every new young superstar player is going to think he deserves to have the highest contract. It's out of control.

He is the best projected talent going forward2, and he's already proven he is up at the top.

I think anyone in his shows would think they deserve the best deal. I don't hold it against him, but I don't have to pay him what he wants, either.

    I am certain Bloom won't.

How many of the usual suspects can swing a trade for him and still afford to lock him up? And do so without losing any current superstars awaiting a payday?

The Yankees could swing it and consider him the replacement for Judge.

I can't see any teams trading a haul to then having to fork out a massive deal. You'd be hindering your team doing so. The Nats will be forced to lessen their demands if they want to unload him

He’d have to be. Even the Yankees won’t be able to tie up nearly $100mill in 2 corner OFs and a DH…
