#4 FSU beat Clemson in OT.
Big game for the Domers vs Ohio St, tonight!

ND coughed, coughed, coughed it up at the end. Rushing 3 at the end of the game with the ball on their 22 was playing the ITDD.Invitation TO Defeat Defense, and they did.
They did show they can play toe-to-toe with the big boys, but yes, some questionable decisions, a dropped interception, missed FG and that damn prevent defense at the end of games.
Lost the game as the runner is tackled with one second left and the ball is right on the goal line. Maybe 2-3 inches from victory.
Great game, though.

DJ Brown dropped two INT
Notre Dame only had 10 men on the field each of the last two plays
The dumb prevent defense on 3rd and forever.
Bad coaching at the end and costly dropped interceptions were the difference, along with the missed FG that Moon mentioned.
Dumb prevent defense, or as I like to call it The Invitation To Defeat Defense just doesn’t work so many times in football, but yet it’s used so many times.Only 10 men on the field the last two plays? WTF!So many plays during the game that if ND makes just one of them they win. This one is gong to sting for a long time.

And Marcus Freeman’s excuse or “not wanting to get a penalty” when he realized there was only 10 men on the field is bullshit.
1. How do you only have 10 men on the field on BACK TO BACK plays
2. The “penalty” was half the distance when they’re on the 1 yard line. I think having a defensive lineman actually in the game is worth the penalty
There were lots of other questionable calls too like on the last possession when after getting a first down run stuffed they tried a screen pass on 2nd down, which almost got picked off, but it stopped the clock as well. Then when they finally punted deep in their own territory they let the play clock run out, and took a penalty, which pushed them back 5 yards deeper when they could have just punted with a second left. They had trouble getting plays off too with the play clock winding down to often. Agree on Freeman’s excuse too. All in all he looked more like a rookie high school coach than a college coach. Not a good look at all for ND. They let a big one get away.
In the coaches defense, despite all these worthy criticisms, the team came to play. They made adjustments to the point where they were winning the O line battles and running very well vs a tough Ohio State defense. The ND defense looked very good until the prevent D trap every coach seems to fall into. We got burned on that one blitz where nobody picked up the slot receiver, and they spotted it and got a big play.
The long rushing TD was just one of about 3 plays that killed us. (The blitz play and of course the long pass at the end that got them to the 1 year line vs the prevent D.) 3 bad plays on D is not bas vs a team like that, and it is something to build on.
Yes, the coach needs to stop making mistakes like those for us to join the big boys, for good, but I was impressed by our play, last night.
I know- I know, only winning counts.

So tired of seeing the same ending play out in so many close football games. It has become very predictable. The team that is leading is invariably unable to move the ball , get a first down and run out the clock to close the show. They punt with a minute or so left. Then the defense comes on and is unable to stop the frantic, last minute drive and blows the game. Whether it's the NFL or college, it's the same thing over and over again.
Old school is good school.
ND falls to 11th in AP poll (best of all 1 loss teams and better than several undefeated teams)
13th in coaches poll.
We play 16th ranked Duke, next.
