Not even an attempt to verify my wife was actually a teacher. "I'd like to find out about teaching jobs in Hawaii?" "Welcome aboard! you start next month!" It was honestly like that.

Of course the pay they offered was so low that, coupled with the cost of living, homeless people would have been giving us money...
Interesting. Maybe they need teachers so badly because they're not paying them anything?

There is such a shortage of math teachers that over the years, I have had a couple of school systems calling me, unsolicited, to see if I was interested in a job.

I spent a week in downtown Austin last summer. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

Moving is one of the most stressful life situations.

Apparently the big problem is something called "Island Fever" where you feel disconnected from the outside world. Sort of like being quarantined...

Screw that. I'd be scuba diving every dang day not even thinking about the outside world.
In the town where I was born
Lived a man who sailed to sea
And he told us of his life
    In the land of submarines
So we sailed up to the sun
'Til we found a sea of green
And we lived beneath the waves
    In our yellow submarine

It is. But when you are set up for it, it's your greatest adventure.

Exactly. I'd find activities. I'd be learning to surf, for example.

    Assuming I could afford anything...

That's interesting. I don't think Island Fever would be an issue for me.

If I plunked you down at a Hawaiian beach that was good for snorkeling, you would want to never leave and just explore more.

Once you went 20 meters deep for a few months. You'd be like, "I wonder what 40 meters deep looks like".

It would depend on what's on the island for me. Hawaii would be good I think. Year round golf is a major turn on, and I still get to watch major US sports via the local TV affiliates. There are many reasons why I would not want to live there full time though, many of which are based around the fact that's its at least a 5 hour flight to go anywhere else in the US, and how there is major disconnection from the outside world. Good place to be right now though. I would NOT mind being quarantined in paradise.

    No idea.

Can you loan me $100,000 to do some research?
