Fuck the Ice Bucket Challenge. If you want to do something for a worthwhile cause, then actually donate to charity or do something that's actually productive. Dumping ice water on your head is social media slacktivism at its finest.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT : Mind your own fucking business if a conversation doesn't concern you and maybe we can start acting like adults.
Says something about society that that's the only the average person can be bothered to contribute to medical research. What makes it worse is that Texas is in a drought, and I think California is too, but these idiots are still wasting water so they can dump it over their head in front of a camera. I'd rather they do the fire challenge, at least that's funny. AND it doubles as natural selection!
I listened to a Fresh Air podcast about the Simpsons at the weekend, and now I wanna go back and watch the whole show (I stopped watching years ago). My only legal choices are buying the box sets - nope - or renting the dvds one or two at a time from Netflix. I'd be here until April doing it that way.
Putting an Uzi in automatic mode in the hands of a young child. Hmmm....what could possibly go wrong?

This is a pet peeve of mine. I used to help organize the local Relay for Life. It is a worthy cause and over 10 years we raised $ 1 million just with our little chapter, but it used to baffle me when some people just showed up to walk around the track and drink coffee and eat donuts without raising money or helping to set up the event. They would just walk in circles and drink coffee and somehow they thought that made them charitable people. Lol! Some people can differentiate the symbolism from the substance. Oh well, at least they are not hurting anyone.
If I recall correctly, doing the challenge still involves donating money, just not as much. And the publicity from the Ice Bucket Challenge has led to, according to most of the sources I have found, 400 thousand new donors. They have made 22 million dollars compared to 2 million over the same time last year (approximately one month). That doesn't sound like slacktivism to me, it sounds like an elevenfold increase in funding for research and preventative care.
Exactly. Whether or not you believe that people should donate more money instead of donating a little bit of money and doing the bucket thing, the fact remains that this has been a huge success in terms of fundraising. It plays to the psychological need to be part of something fun and interesting, and whether or not that is a symptom of the ubiquitous nature of social media, and regardless of whether you view that omnipresence as negative, it is a far better outcome than the alternative: doing nothing.
I don't see the issue with the Ice Bucket challenge.. Its gained a lot of attention for ALS and leading to more people donating than before. I didn't really want to take part in it but everyone else was doing it and I got tagged multiple times so I ended up giving in.
What grinds my gears is the way NFL handles suspensions. Be ACCUSED of rape, never be charged with anything, never even be arrested or anything, you get a 4 game suspension. Beat your wife/Girlfriend on camera, 2 games. Smoke weed, 16 games.
Yes, Josh Gordon is a moron, but this is just ridiculous.
Fixed. There is no possible way he was actually smoking, the numbers on the samples were way too low. Honestly, if a guy who is as big an addict as Gordon has that much of a strong will to only take one puff -- or whatever minimal amount it would take to trip that test -- he deserves a break anyway.
I definitely couldn't agree more. This hurts the entertainment value for the league as well. We all know that Manziel will play at some point in the season. How fun would it be to see him hook up with Gordon 10+ times a game? It would fans in the seats in Cleveland, that's for sure.
