Thanks Billy Mueller. You played the game the right way, and provided Red Sox fans with some of the most thrilling moments in Red Sox history.

Happy Trails Billy Ballgame. You never complained about anything, you never said anything negative, you just went out and did your job the bets you could, and we all thank you for it.

Probably the last old school guy this generation will ever see. Sad to see Billy go.

This sucks. I just found out it was official today. I'm glad to see he's sticking around the game. The game needs more guys like Bill Mueller in it.

Thanks Bill (http://bellsouthpwp.net/c/h/chinigor/audio/072404_mueller_gwhr.mp3)

Bill Mueller doesn't get enough credit for that play. Yeah, it was all setup by Dave Roberts' stolen base, but some people seem to forget that Billy Mueller still had to drive him in off of the greatest closer to ever play the game.

Bill Mueller was one of my favorites, and it's too bad he has to leave the game because of an injury.

I hope the Sox bring him back to throw out an opening pitch this season. imagine the reception he'll get.
What a great guy, and I'm sad to see him stop playing, and he'll always be appreciated by millions of fans.

Sad to see him go....three of my favorite moments were:

-knocking in roberts to tie the game in the 04 alcs game 4

-the homer to win it during the infamous "punch arod in the mouth" game---which was the turning point of the season some say!

-the 2 grand slams in one game. one from the right side and one from the left--he is the only player to do this!

The game and the sox will dearly miss "The Pro"!

Lowell's better.

No, seriously. Mueller was a very good 3B but even counting his bad defensive year this year, Lowell has been a better 3b for us over the time we've had him..

Lol and then you cry when people jump all over you.

Read your post again and wonder why you get attacked like GW.

Bill Mueller could set a daycare on fire and then kick the children as they run screaming from the flames, and I'd still buy him a beer.

I was saying that in response to a guy who said he wanted Mueller back.

Well, that and it's just the truth.

Mueller's 2003 season is still unmatched by Lowell, but I agree that Lowell has been better over his entire tenure than Mueller was.

But so what?

Is this a "Was Mueller vs Lowell?" thread.

No.

It's a thread for Billy Mueller, and no one gives a shit whether or not Lowell is better.

Jesus Fucking Christ.

Yeah because i'm the one who turned the Bill Mueller retires thread into a Mikey Lowell lovefest, Jacko incarnate.

Agreed.

I like them both A LOT. What Mueller did in 2003 and 2004 for the Sox....so many key hits and at the right time. He was a "quieter" member of the team but fit in so well.
