Scouting Report: Big, strong first baseman with a stocky build. Aggressive at the plate, steps into the ball with good bat speed. Pounds weak pitching. West has mostly DH'd throughout his career, but has played some first base and even catcher at times.

this guy is really good a friend of mine in sarasota has seen him 7 times and he says better then millar

Well, since West is a semi-big prospect, and since this hasn't been updated in forever, here's his most recent stats:

He should probably be called up next year, since his stats look half decent. He could certainly work on that k/BB ratio though...

I'd promote him to Portland, then to Pawtucket 3/4 through next season. If he shows he can hit, he can take over for Millar in '06. Long time from now though

His highest big-league upside is probably Millar. He really tailed off his stats in June-July, but he began to pick it up again in August.

I have a feeling most Sox fans would hate him due to how streaky he is. He's not Varitek or Shoppach streaky with lots of highs and lows. He's Millar streaky, one great month and then he takes a nap the rest of the season.
