Coakley Calls Schilling A Yankees FanBOSTON (WBZ) There are just three days before the special election for the U.S. Senate, but it's something Democratic candidate Martha Coakely said on WBZ Radio's "Nightside with Dan Rea" that is turning heads on Saturday.

Rea asked Coakley if Pres. Obama's visit to Massachusetts on Sunday was a sign that the race is getting too close for comfort:

Coakley: If it weren't so close, Rudy Giuliani wouldn't have come, either, besides he's a Yankee fan, I just want people to know.

Rea: But Scott Brown has Curt Schilling.

Coakley: Another Yankee fan.

Rea: Schilling?

Coakley: Yes.

Rea: Curt Schilling a Yankee fan??

Coakley: No.

Rea: Curt Schilling a Yankee fan? The Red Sox great pitcher of the bloody sock?

Coakley: Well, he's not there anymore.

Schilling responded on his blog. "Never, could anyone ever make the mistake of calling me a Yankee fan… If you didn't know what the (expletive) is going on in your own state, maybe you could."

Gotta go with Scott Brown. These Dems are working to destroy this country and everything we stand for. And continuing the free ride for Obama is just going to plunge us further into communism. Seriously, why should my hard work and dedication be used to pay for some shlep's ability to get health care? This is the land of opportunity, where hard work pays off. When did it become the land that everyone gets a free ride and those who actually excel get to pay for other people's failures?

a700hitter

The Bill is bullshit anyway. It's a total con job. They say that they want all Americans to have healthcare, but the current bill would leave 12 million without coverage. It's a way of getting government's foot in the door. This legislation would accelerate the deterioration of the existing system, precipitating a true crisis down the road. In times of crisis, the government has the support of the people to step in. This bill would be a first step toward the long range goal of a single payer plan.

The problem with healthcare is the absence of economic principles resulting from the introduction of a third party payer- private and government funded insurance. People never ask a doctor for a price. Is there any other service of which that is true? No. The solution is not universal coverage with zero or low deductibles. That will exacerbate the problem, because people will overuse the system resulting in a shortage of resources that would in turn necessitate the rationing of care by the government. The solution is hgh deductible coverage coupled with pre-tax individually funded Health Savings Accounts. That would introduce economic principles to the system resulting in cost consciousness by the patient and upfront cost disclosure by providers. This would reduce the rate of medical inflation, which is the true crisis for the current system.

Communism is a dream. And socialism is nearly impossible to achieve in the US. Not meant to make this personal, but for someone who pounds his chest about the deficiencies of the Dominican education system, that's a pretty ignorant statement to make. I'd expect a superior "American" like you to know that communism is nothing but Karl Marx' utopic dream, and that the USA's current economic structure simply would take at least decades to convert into what you actually meant, and that is socialism.

While I don't disagree with the things you state are contributing to the rate of healthcare cost inflation, I think you've omitted a significant contributor to that rate. The cost of malpractice insurance. For many practices, it is the single biggest overhead cost. I think some sort of tort reform to reign in the lawyers would help.

Communism is impossible to achieve (Not technically, but realistically), but socialism in America is not anywhere near impossible. We're already moving toward a more government-oriented economic and political system.

We're supposed to be capitalist, and democratic, but we're starting to sacrifice some of that. The government is expanding.

Dipre
01-19-2010, 05:47 PM
Politically, it may be possible. Economically, it's not, since you'd have to shift the economic power from corporate hands and sever the ties of globalization one by one.

Emmz
01-19-2010, 05:52 PM
I agree with you on that, but it is possible to socialize the economy in some form. Not entirely, not to the degree that the Russians or Chinese have it, but our economy is becoming more socialistic all the time.

This was a reality before Obama. However, he, along with the overwhelmingly democratic congress, does not help to change that.

See my last post. I wasn't saying anything about Obama magically turning this country into the USSA.

It was a reality before Obama, but it doesn't make it any less true, that the government has been expanding, and Obama, and a very extreme-democrat congress, doesn't help to change that.

I think parties should be abolished completely, because people always just seem to support some guy because their family has always been one way or the other. My mom's not into politics, but my dad's a republican. I'm a libertarian, and we have disagreements on what we think should happen socially a lot, and occasionally on economics.

Stop mucking up this thread, mod. You should ban yourself for this childish behavior. You should give yourself a one day ban to show good faith.

Edit: But you deserve a warning before you bring down the ban hammer.

To all the voters in Mass. that took the time yesterday to support Senator Brown with their vote, thank you. Hopefully the message you sent is received, understood and finally opens some eyes in D.C. Your vote may ignite a firestorm this Fall where hopefully many of the incumbents of the Beltway are sent packing. Thanks again. By the way, do you have any influence here in Illinois? Wish the voters here would understand that a politicians career shouldn't be State Legislator, Governor, Federal Prison!

Mainly I'm just posting in this thread to prove that there is a liberal side to Talksox.

I'm not going to get into any political debate.
