Great to see Schill start this game!

Rain this afternoon and a chance of showers tonight. Both bullpens would love a rainout, but the Sox have to hope to play to try and keep momentum and hope Schilling goes long. Sox hitters have yet to really explode with a big inning except for Game 1, and they need it tonight.
You have to admire Schilling for going out there. I hope his ankle is as strong as his heart.

I think a rainout would help New York and hurt Boston.

Let's face it: The Sox have the momentum right now and need to keep it.

Rivera's been worked hard. Gordon's been worked hard. Allowing them a night off only makes them stronger!

Yes, the Sox bullpen is tired too. But as I've posted before, I think a guy like Foulke or Wakefield bounces back better because he's not a power pitcher... call me crazy.

I think Mirabelli should start tonight for the following reasons:

Varitek is struggling at the plate.
Varitek is 0-5 in his career against Lieber.
Varitek has caught 26 innings in the last 2 games.

Mirabelli is more than capable.
Mirabelli is 3-8 in his career against Lieber.
Mirabelli is fresh.

I love Varitek, but the man's been beaten up the last 2 nights. Catching is the hardest position to play, and he could use at least a few innings off.

Good. Someone get Terry Francona on the horn.

The suspense is killing me.

What will we get from Schilling?

Will somone not named David Ortiz step up?

Can David Ortiz continue to swing a hot bat?

Can the Sox figure out Jon Lieber?

Can this game possibly end before midnight?

I'm scared about Schilling. He's pitching hurt in a game in which we face elimination. That's never good.

Schilling is going to pitch the gutsiest game of his life. My only concern is that he'll be so fired up that he won't be able to last as long as we need him, with our bullpen in such bad shape.

tonight should be interesting schilling's only other postseason loss was in game 1 of the 93' world series and his number in that game and in game 1 this series are very much alike, in 93' he pitched in game 5 of that series and pitched a complete game shut

lieber is due for a bad start and i sure hope it doesn't come tonight because all bets are off in a game 7

why is schilling not wearing that high top designed for him. is that red shit on his ankle blood or that stuff they are injecting in him?

I have always liked him, but he has shown me nothing recently. Get Pokey in there, at least he would have beat out that DP.

Lieber is SUCH a frusterating pitcher. Lot's of hits allowed, lot's of pitches, lot's of baserunners, but few runs. DURGH!

he's a groundball pitcher, what do you expect?

Good point, but against dominant groundball pitchers like Kevin Brown in his prime, it's not frusterating, it's impressive. When Lieber is shutting us down, stranding baserunners every inning, it gets excruciating. A pitcher like Brown didn't let many runners reach base.

I love how there is a thread here entitled "Bellhorn Sucks," but when he comes through big, we all of a sudden love him.

Guess that's how Sox fans are. ;)

i'm not shutting up. bellhorn sucks. he strikes out way too much and is a total compiling hitter. he only hits well against bad pitchers. john lieber is a bad pitcher no matter how you look at it.

classless fucking yankee fans. they dont deserve this anymore. this is not how u take a call, u do not trash the field. they can all go back to the hole they live in and do that. the umps are correct too, so that makes the fans even more wrong. damn yankee fans, always wrong.

Bellhorn--still don't like him (and he has a B in his name--bad Karma for game 7), but great HR tonight

A-Rod---"Cheater, cheater, you're a ......eater"(I can't remember that childhood chant and it's driving me crazy (help me out, someone)

Ortiz--now well rested for a dramatic game 7

Also, we have to make sure Bubba Crosby doesn't come in tomorrow night--he's the only B on the Yankees other than Bernie Williams (who we need to walk EVERY TIME he's up)

Let's not tempt the curse!!

My random stat for the night: in Games 4, 5, and 6, we have scored 15 runs. 9 of them have been with two outs, including all 4 tonight. Yes, we have stranded truckloads of runners (or does it just seem that way to me?), but we have also gotten some clutch hitting. Very nice.

Other stat: Ortiz was 0 for tonight. And we won. Heck yeah.

Schilling gave us exactly what we needed not only to win this game but to give our relievers (Foulke excepted) some rest for tomorrow. What a stud.

Will Foulke have anything at all left if we need him tomorrow?

What a fantastic victory. Go Sox, and I'm sure els will forgive me :) if I am dreaming about that sweet sweet celebration that just might silence the Bronx tomorrow.

mosox
10-20-2004, 01:24 AM
Schilling was a stud. Tek came up clutch and Bellhorn did his Papi impression. We got justice from the umps. The pen got rest, the momentum rolls and we're back for one more!

Everything I've wanted to say about the Sox and last night's game is in other posts, so I'll just say one thing that's on ALL Sox fans' minds:

There's a first time for everything! Let's make history!
