I just checked yahoo a few minutes ago and noticed that '09 baseball registration is now up and running. Who usually runs the league here? How do yall do it? Scoring rules, number of teams, etc? I definitely plan on being part of the league if I can.

I'm going to go ahead and make a decree: whoever neglected their team last year is ineligible this year. Fantasy baseball is significantly more fun when people are active.

Maybe if we all pitched in to cover the fee plus a small prize that would be an incentive to participate?

Agreed. I hate it when people sign up to play a fantasy game and quit like a month in.

What fee are you talking about? I wouldn't mind chipping in. Just curious.

The yahoo premium fee is I think around $125 for the league. Totally worth it, it gets a lot of sweet add-ons for everyone and a t-shirt for the winner.

Gotcha. Yeah, it wouldn't be that bad if we all chipped in. That includes the draft kit and all that good stuff right? We did that in football I believe and it included stattracker so I'm sure baseball would be the same. Plus, you'll have stattracker for your other leagues.

ORS, you running the league again like they said?

Got a lot on my plate right now. I know the role of commish is pretty hands off in general, but I'd just as soon someone else do it this year. You can count me in to play and participate, though. And, I'll chip in for the premium league.

The Talkson Premium 09 League has been established. The dues ( mandatory ) will be
$ 25. This will bo towards $ 125 Yahoo league fee and the rest to a cash prize(s). This year dues are mandatory. In the past, only about 50% have paid their dues. When I send out the invitations with the league registration information, I'll also include my mailing address and my Paypal address. If I don't receive your dues by a week before draft date, then you will be dropped.

Yahoo will only let us have an even number of teams. I will probably cut the invitations at 14 and will save any addtional interest on a waiting list. If openings become available ( due to non payment of dues or dropping out ) replacements will be made from this list.

I missed about five innings of Game 6 of the ALCS, because of Cici's delicious $3.99 pizza.

Just out of curiosity, since it's head to head, are the standings going to be like fantasy hockey? As in, if I win 7 categories and lose 3, will I be 7-3 after one week or will I just be 1-0 for winning my matchup?

Every Mon, Tue, Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sunday or just that week? Any chance we could do it a week sooner or even a week later towards the end of spring training? At least that way there's less time until the season and more time for spring injuries to play out, making it easier to avoid drafting a big player who goes down during the spring and misses a chunk of the season?

Are you sure you can't just push the draft time back like 45 minutes to an hour? Or even earlier in the afternoon. Tuesday's and Wednesday' 5:30-6:30 is no good for me. You seem to be willing to accommodate everyone else's needs but either just expect me to miss something important for the draft or have an unfair advantage by autodrafting in a league where everyone is gonna be drafting live. I mean look I would love to play I had a lot of fun last year with you guys but I'm not going to pay the same dues as everyone and not be extended the same courtesy. And it's not about the money, the $25 doesn't mean shit to me. It's the issue. So if nothing can be worked out for the draft then fine, delete me.

There have been two adjustments to the original " tentative " draft date/time. First, when my son and I both realized that we couldn't make the Thursday 3/19 date. Subsequently, it was moved to 3/18. Shortly after, Yeszir asked that it be moved up an hour to 6:00 PM. I accomodated him. Then you asked to have it changed. So I've made two changes. I'd hardly call that accomadating "everyone". This was done with almost 3 weeks notice. With 3 weeks notice, you can't get out of work an hour early ?

Currently we are at 13 registered members. I have extended invitations to Gom's friend and Whiskeybreath, as well as, 26-6. If anyone else is interested contact me. The dues are $ 25 and the draft is March 18th @ 8:00 PM EDT. The first one to register is in.

If we don't get a 14th team, then I'll have to drop TheKilo, as Yahoo does not allow an odd number pf teams. That would be a shame.

It runs from 3/30/09 to 4/12/09. In other words, don't get too excited about having or not having players in the Altanta vs Phil. game.

Per your words in the trade thread, Huff was available and you were fine picking up a stopgap when questioned about your 3B position until Arod returns. I sent you an offer, and you replied that you can't trade Huff because you need him until Arod gets back. This type of outright flip-flopping tends to turn people off from sending further proposals and wanting to negotiate with you.

2) See #1

3) That should be between you and him. Not fair to me who paid my dues.

4) No sense.

If the league votes against the trade, that's one thing. If you're going to arbitrarily choose what trades to accept and not to accept, then kindly return my dues as I do not wish to continue in the league. I've made great trades and terrible trades, and no one can forsee the future. I gave up more talent in the deal, by far. Are you saying that I can't trade Manny because he's suspended? That I can't trade Posada, who's injured, but has value, and is a backup to Mauer for me? That's bullshit, and you know it.

I traded a former All-Star and ERA leader, a temporary closer, and a guy hitting .339 for last years stolen base leader.

I think it's bullshit. I'm vetoing every deal from now on. I understand the need for vetoing deals, but what is it..one vote? There's barely any trading done at all!

The deal was a fair one, one where I gave up more talent down the road, but for a boost now, as I needed it since I lost Manny. Total bullshit. I amended the deal a bit, but if this one gets rejected, screw this league. No offense SFOC, as you're a great commish.

So because YOU don't like the trade and because YOU don't THINK players on the DL should be involved in trades YOU vetoed it? Was it the league that voted against it or was it you? I can't see the rest of the league having a problem with the 2 worst teams in the league making a trade. I have a feeling this was all you. As for the dues I apologize for not sending them in, I've been so overwhelmed the past few months that I forgot. Now that you've mentioned it again I do recall discussing it with you and you have my apologies, that is wrong of me. But after this stunt I'm not sending anything until I get an honest explanation. I'm sorry that you can't read. Gom askes why I thought the deal wouldn't go through. I simply responded with some reasons that it might not go through. Whether those were my reasons or mere cconjecture as to others is irrelevent. I'm entitled as a league member to have my own opinion and vote. My one vote didn't decide anything. As I stated in response to Gom's accusations and tirades, the league voted and vetoed the deal. If you bothered to read the thread or read the rules you would know this.

So when things don't go your way, your response is to make baseless accusations, blame others for your problems, and finally play the Yankee Card ( the world hates me..... ).

Pathetic.

The funny thing is that RedSoxrules proposed the deal to me. By the way, I wouldn't have made the deal if I didn't have Posada.

The truth is that he moves Feliz to 3B, and Michael Young to SS. What he loses in Jeter he makes up for in Feliz for the most part. He gets Mauer instead of Bengie Molina and his .266 OBP. He basically goes from having the worst catcher in our league to the best. That costs him Bedard and the difference between Utley/Hudson [minor] and Jeter/Feliz [minor since Young slides over from 3rd to SS]. You're quick to point out that I had Posada, but you didn't take the time to see he had Feliz, and he's having a comparable season to Jeter. I can afford to give up Mauer since I have Posada, and Hudson is currently having as good a season as Utley. As for collusion, he's in 2nd place, and I'm currently [if the standings stay as they are] in 4th. One thing...I play fair, and you all know it.

Maybe this will encourage teams trading with each other a bit more anyways. If RSR picks up Wieters...could it be that he's planning to move him for, I don't know...a starting pitcher? Wieters as a trade chip [or Mauer] can be quite valuable IMO.

SFOC...you offered me Carlos Pena and Jason Kubel for Pujols. What the hell do you think anyone would have said to that deal? That makes this deal look like nothing.

This is true. Mauer is hurt by the way, he may go on the DL.

Team Dynasty...you're next. I'm up to 3rd, and I want that bye week.

Jeez...talk about a tough stretch. I played the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and now this upcoming week, the 4th place team, all in a five week stretch.

Still looking for an above average OFer.

Goddamn, I hate when daily roster moves blow up in your face. I think I lost 9 RBIs this week because I didn't start the right guys. 5 RBIs alone today. It's infuriating.

You never know. You've got the pitching to do it now. Getting Bedard and Utley was huge. I know Dynasty was happy to get Mauer, but he really screwed himself over with that trade.

I'm not done yet. Still looking for that big bopper in the OF.

Wow, 51 total bases in the first two days this week. Adrian Gonzalez and Hanley had almost nothing to do with it. Go figure.

What an ugly matchup between yeszir and I. He's got a 4.98 ERA and 1.47 WHIP...and he's winning.

I've got a .292 OBP....and I'm' winning.

Fugly.

So, I'm kind of running away with this thing. Helps when you're getting career years out of a bunch of guys.

Wise men say, what matters is where you are after the playoffs.

True, but I look at the playoffs as a formality. Assuming I don't drop off during the remainder of the season - if I lose in the playoffs - I still have, by far, the best team. So if I lose, I can at least take solace in that.

Only the $ positions have any meaning, and in reality only the champ has any bragging rights.

According to you, but that's a load of BS. I've won 81 games. No one else has even won 60.

No offense, but the literal translation of this is....

You can't stop me from feeling really good about myself for guessing who would have a big year.

Take that however you want.

No, that's actually accurate. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't gratifying. But there was certainly a good deal of luck involved. Haren is a solid pitcher, but as far as I know he's never been this dominant for this long. Blackburn was decent last year, but this year he's been incredible. Buehrle is having his best season in years. That said, I expect all three will drop off somewhat as the season progresses.

Hawpe's career-high in doubles is 33. He already has 24 this year. I actually thought he might have a down year, now that Holliday is no longer in the lineup. Sandoval looked good last year, but there was no way of knowing he would meet or exceed expectations from the small sample size. Gonzalez is hitting for more power and getting on base more than ever before.

Finally, I got incredibly lucky with Reynolds. Someone dropped him because it looked like his playing time was about to be greatly reduced. But he got new life because everyone else in that D-Backs lineup was struggling mightily early on. Had Alex Gordon stayed healthy, would I have picked up Reynolds? We'll never know.

So yes, I'm happy with how things have turned out. But it would be misleading to say I knew beforehand or could have guessed where my team would be in the standings right now.

I'm not taking anything away from you, but the way I see it...the top two spots are key. You get a bye week. That's it.

You put the best team on the field, drafting/trading, and hope for the best at the end.

Someone has to have a need for RP. I'm not asking for an All-Star, just someone better than Milton Bradley or Brett Gardner.

Drop Gardner and pick up someone else. There are a handful of guys who would be upgrades over him.
